I'd love to see a sinister XMC-1 , I believe Emotiva could do it You mean the putting the volume knob on the left side? Plus these other great features... ...turning the volume dial clockwise decreases the volume, while turning it counter-clockwise increases the volume. ...the front panel input buttons are attached to a chance wheel--you never know what'cha gonna get! Pressing "CD" might actually switch the input to phono or AUX 2. ...the right surround and left back surround pre-outs are reversed. ...the subwoofer output passes 5 Hz to 300 Hz, with the exception of a -30 dB hole from 41 Hz to 49 Hz. ...the headphone output is wired directly to the mains. and last, but certainly not least... ...the Arm9 32 bit 375MHz processor doesn't actually run custom Linux software, it runs Windows Vista.

cohiba, I like your signature. I wonder with the price increase how many "Planned: XMC" or "Waiting for: XMC" statements will be changed to "Waiting for RMC". Also, in a somewhat related topic, I've been a little surprised that the 40% cards people are unloading aren't selling for much more now than when the XMC was $1499. The card value changed from a savings of $600 to a savings of $800, yet the cards are only selling for $20-$40 more from what I have seen on ebay and the forums here. Could be the market is saturated or everyone who wants one has one. But I figured the price would be closer to $300-$400. I've seen several of the cards go between $300-$400 on eBay. $300 is the most that I've seen. People keep trying to list them at $350 and $400 and they aren't selling. There have been 3 auctions for over $300, and none of them had any takers. I think that some sellers were hoping to take advantage of the announced increase and sell their cards for twice as much, and that's not happening. The average is around $250-260 for recent auctions. Only 2 sold for about $300 and those predated the price increase.

Hey casey01! - How about a user's review of the new Yammy CX-A5000 in a new thread here in Emo-Land somewhere? (That new surround processor has been getting a lot of attention, and many are interested...). I hope to have one in my hands early next week and if I get a chance I'll post my impressions (in another thread) too if there is interest.

I think there is still a lot of skepticism, which makes the card a gamble for some people.

I ended up calling a local Best Buy to get some options and they had a Marantz AV7005 open box for $800 so I jumped on it. Sorry Emotiva I really wanted to stick with you but the wait was too long and the price too high. I'm still pulling for ya on the XMC though. I hope it does well.
Guess I'll be selling my upgrade card now.

As for me, my mind hasn't changed one bit since EmoFest, the XMC-1 will definitely have a home in my home theater, especially with the 11 bands of P-EQ per channel and the addition of DIRAC(which I'm chomping at the bit to give the trial version from the DIRAC site a go).

Congrats Darien!!.....I own the Marantz AV7701 and I think it's a fantastic preamp, nice warm full textured midrange with lots of detail on top without being edgy or metalic....Great sounding preamp if you have good revealing speakers, you will love it!!....and Movies sound sooooo Awesome!....but I think I will hang on to my 40% upgrade card for a future upgrade, maybe in 10 years time........by then I think they will have mastered the art in making a good AV processor.

Do you have to have card to get the discount? Somehow I've misplaced my upgrade card.

That's good to hear Monku, at least they have a mechanism that doesn't require sending the actual card in (and possibly getting lost).

Bill Watch the value shoot up once the xmc is out and everyone's used up their cards. The rumored RMC at $3000, 40% is a nice chunk of change... Right now emo lowered demand for their own product, which keeps the value of the cards low. Xmc is a hit - value will increase RMC is announced - value will increase Xmc is a bust or never comes out - value drops Xmc comes out but is beaten by the market processors in 2014 - value drops Each if them is a real possibility. Waiting can net you a cheaper card, or a pricier one. Let's just hope the xmc launch isn't a repeat of the umc...

Or 5 ; someone with their head screwed on angling for a cheaper card comes out with a couple of disaster scenarios like these sorry couldn't resist - another factor not mentioned so far is the considerable number of umc200's with the ufl 25%off sold ; devaluing to an extent the worth of a 40% off card..

I like pulling for the "little guy" and when the UMC works it's a great unit. But it's quirks really bug me. Just today, the audio cut out while watching the OZ the Great and Powerful BD. I rewound a scene and the audio cut out and came back as weird static.

Unfortunately I'm not sold on the 7705 yet. I've got MAD ground loop hum from the pre outs that I can't seem to get rid of. I tried swapping out the cables, plugging the 7705 into different outlets, disconnecting the cable TV, everything I could think of. I even bought a $50 Humx ground loop isolator and that didn't fix it. My next step is using the XLR outs to my XPA-5. But that still leaves me screwed with my Onkyo 2-ch amp that I'm using to run my surrounds. I'll give Marantz and Onkyo a call tomorrow to see if they know how I can maybe ground the amp to the 7705. Just kills me that Marantz service only works M-F 9-5. Gimme a break don't they know 90% of the people work those same hours? How am I supposed to troubleshoot the problem if I'm not at home? Stupid.

On the ground loop....have you tried connecting the AV7705 chassis to your surge protector (if you are using one), via an insulated copper wire?
I had a ground loop last year and this solution offerred up by an EE friend of mine solved the problem. Used a screw on my Pioneer vsx-01 chassis, wrapped the copper wire around it and took that to my surge suppressor which had a ground screw. Hum was gone.

My Belkin power center does have a ground plug.

I've got MAD ground loop hum from the pre outs that I can't seem to get rid of. One of my friends has a problem with a ground loop caused by the HDMI cable from the pre/pro to his projector (which happened to be on a different power circuit) - not all pre/pros had the issue (which made it take a long time to trouble shoot the first time) - guess differences in grounding and isolation.... If you have not done so, try removing all connections to the display from the pre/pro and seeing if the hum goes away... If so, we solved it with a longer power cable and plugging the projector into the same circuit as the pre/pro. And before somebody asks, never tried any Emo units there, so I do not know if the UMCs have this issue in his room...

Try the speaker wire.

Blame the cable box. That's all I have to say.
When I was fighting a ground loop, the stupid coax line to the cable box wasn't grounded properly.
Logically, disconnecting the HDMI from the cable box - demonstrated where the issue started.
