It has got to be metal. Even people who don't give a @#$% about how my system sounds appreciate the weapons grade remote of my SR-120.

URC makes remotes in this format. Don't know if I've seen them or not. I'll check them out.

URC makes remotes in this format. Don't know if I've seen them or not. I'll check them out. They ain't cheap (URCs). The Harmony ultimate can be found for ~250.00 & really is quite nice.

I'll stick with my URC MX-850. It does everything but make coffee, but that's only because I don't have a programmable coffee pot.

I'll take a backlit metal remote just so I can see where I am swinging.

The metal-heads win! The XMC-1 remote as seen at Chicago road show is metal, similar in style to the UMC-1 remote. The button layouts look more like the UMC-200 remote in my opinion. NOT backlit.

First choice would be a quality URC learning remote. Plastic please, I would not pay extra for a DIY looking metal brick.

If I had my choice it's plastic! Well made of course but, metal is just to heavy. To me it just doesn't feel right.
I would also like to see the remote be universal. Not walmart universal I'm talking Harmony universal. A pre/pro is most likely more complex then anything else you use a remote for so, having a universal remote who's primary function is for your pre/pro just makes sense to me.
If the remote was intuitive enough and flexible enough I would pay more for it. It might not be a bad idea for Emotiva to design their own universal remote and sell it on its own. Given Emotiva's rep for most bang for your buck this might sell very well.?.?.

I'd like to upgrade my UMC200 remote to metal and backlit...

Can you add the option like "I don't care"? I use the Harmony Touch. So once setup, I will not use the original remote. Have you been really happy with the harmony Touch?

Perhaps the only satisfaction I will ever see on the remote front is that I received when I brought up back lighting in the "Features" thread. I don't care if it is plastic, metal , wood or gelatinous, as long as I can see the damn thing in the dark. OK, forget he gelatin version.
Metal feels good. If it is too heavy, be glad that your remote is giving you much needed biofeedback and do some curls.
Plastic works too. Half of our cars are plastic. If plastic feels too light, Lonnie could add internal lead strips.
Notwithstanding the glitzy LCD screens and never ending nested menus, universal remotes are not what I want to go to when doing setup or repetitive adjustments. If the choice is between pressing one button that I can see to get the desired effect vs. paging through various levels while deciphering oddball abbreviations of functions in order to do a simple adjustment, I'll take the lighted single purpose remote hands down.
Yes, Harmonys and the like are fine for switching sources, changing channels and adjusting volume, but as soon as I have to start swap swapping LCD pages on the remote, all I want to do is pick up my XMC-1 remote and be able to see what the hell I am doing.

Hey gang! You will have soon an Emotiva apps for your iPhone or smartphone, I think that it's the best backlit remote you can find.

I would say metal. I like hefty remotes.

Can you add the option like "I don't care"? I use the Harmony Touch. So once setup, I will not use the original remote. Have you been really happy with the harmony Touch? Mostly yes. I have the Touch now for about a month, before I used the Harmony 885. The unit itself is quite ok, althoug I had to get used to the touch screen. Especially when to use as a numeric keyboard. It is smaller than the 885, and not all buttons are where you would expect them to be. The biggest issue I have is with the setup. A part of the setup you have to do with the computer, another part with the unit itself. For me it was not always clear when to use the computer and when to use the unit. The programming of the unit is now almost complete, some small changes here and there. Bottom line: a very handy unit, but it takes some time to get it programmed and to get used to it.

I honestly don't care if it's plastic or metal so long as it's well laid out, fits well in the hand and is backlit. Id take the plastic remote from the onkyo 886 over the umc1 brick any day.
