How much would you budget for TT with only owning 25 albums?

Title says it all.

I have had some issues with my Debut Carbon. There is a slight hum that I can't get rid of. Once the record is playing you can't notice it, but before the beginning and after the side it is noticeable. ( and driving me crazy)

So, I have 25 albums. Only 1 album that i can't find on digital either CD or Download.
How much would you spend on a new TT in my shoes? Or should i just bag the TT and go all digital?

I really enjoy my digital setup and money is tight with 2 youngsters in the house.

Seems like price points are ~$500, -1100, ~1700

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't suggest any amount of your budget or even a specific model of TT to invest in; too subjective an issue. I will only advise that you spend as much as your budget will allow, and that you get the best TT that you can afford.

However, you must ask yourself if you plan on collecting vinyl now or in the future, or do you see yourself going all-digital? There's no right or wrong way, only what suits you best and gives you the most enjoyment.

If you can envision your audio future as only digital, I would say spend less on the TT. Conversely, if vinyl is still a strong medium for you, then spend a little more and get something that will exploit all the virtues that vinyl has to offer.

Whether i continue to get Vinyl or go all digital is really the underlying question. Miney is tight, but I usually get one reasonable purchase per year. I've already decidedthe tables I'd listen to, but i am a bit too involved.

With 25 albums is it crazy to spend $2k on a table (like RP6)?
Would it make more sence to be at $1k?
Or just go budget again?

Honestly it's not like i have the money sitting around doing nothing. I'd have to sell some stuff I am not using amd save the rest... If I got a new table and really enjoyed it I would get more Vinyl.

It just seems like a good place to either cut my loses or go whole hog into it.

So you know my preference for tables would be : Rega RP1/3/6 / Clearaudio Concept / Marantz TTS1. I prefer the British sound and these would seem to fit the bill, unless i just dump what i can and put my Vinyl in storage.

I love my RP6 but if you're only going to keep a few albums then the RP3 might be a better choice.

What cartridge are you running? Pro-ject doesn't do well with isolating the motor. I put a Grado red on mine and the hum was very loud. I changed out to the Sure M9xe and no hum.

2M Blue, which is a relatively new stylus (that may go up for sale). Same hum with original 2M Red.

I had a Pro-jet table and it did quite well. You may not get rid of all the hum, but you might try this: on the Carbon, I believe the motor is tightened down on some sorbethane grommets. Sometimes if the screw are too tight it will hum a little louder. You might check that and maybe loosen the screws just a bit. IMHO

If you don't start buying vinyl now you most likely never will, I've collected over the years so it's well worth my purchase and a good to better TT is advantages to start while your young,,,,,,,

Do you really like the sound of vinyl,,,,,,,,minus your hum of course. My RP-6 is dead silent and I just adore the sound of my recordings over that of digital.

Minus the hum, how much do you like/love the sound of vinyl? Do you like the physical contact and manipulation or is it a PIA.??

If you can swing $2000.00 for a decent TT and cartridge without pain to your wallet and lifestyle then your on your way to a lifetime of enjoyment, otherwise ,,,,,skip it and move along.

I do like vinyl when I get the chance to listen. I was thinking either RP3 with Exact or 2M Blue or RP6 with my 2m Blue.

$1500 for 25 Albums? Seems a bit crazy.

I could buy all albums over in 24/96 and just keep on going?

I think unless someone is an avid vinyl collector there is too much money involved IMO, I loved my Debut Carbon but for the amount I actually used it I found a better investment for the $400, I liked the sound but just too expensive for my budget and looking at all the vinyl I wanted to buy I would have needed a second job hahah.

After reading this information I will offer this,
Do not store your LPs unless you do it properly!
That said, the price point of the RP-6 with the Exact cartridge will get you the best sound you could want, IMHO in that $$$ category, I wouldn't  spend time with a lessor priced TT, sometimes you do get what you pay for. I wish you could audition one in your room to actually hear the difference in the price category.

I'm not looking down on lessor priced TTs mind you, it's kind of like a good set of cans. $100.00 to about $4/500 they just about are of the same category and sound quality. Until you get past that dollar amount it's about a waist of money. I personally don't think you get that much more quality for the dollars spent.

If you don't care for the ritual involved in vinyl AND the sound, don't bother. Just two more cents,,,,,this could get expensive,,,,he,,,,he,,,,he,,,,,,

I guess what I'm saying is,,,,,,,,all in or go home!!,,,,,ie, digital.

I agree, I used to enjoy the interaction with my TT, I just don't miss the ticks, pops and continual decline in sound over time.
