For what it's worth... If you want to get into Atmos and DTS-X... Wait. There is going to be a lot if shake out on the first generation Atmos and DTS- X "capable" platforms. My feeling is that many people are not going to be very happy at the end of the day. Now, let's be clear, this is just my opinion. So, don't start yelling at me. We're hard at work on these new products but the amount of stuff still in a state of flux is scary. Really, I'd give it a year. Don't get me started on reflective Atmos speakers either... Cheers, Big Dan... Somewhere in the Napa Valley... ?

Not sure what this means (I'm assuming it has WAY more to do with Dts:x Han anything) but I know of at minimum 25+ titles to be announced for q1 with Dolby atmos encoding. 4K UHD blurays will be encoded with atmos. Dts:x is still up in the air.

Dts:x is still up in the air. Now this is PURELY my opinion which means it is worth nothing, but I don't think Atmos or DTS:X will ever be a big deal for the majority of users. That's not passing judgement on how good it is, just that because of the hassle of implementing it with extra speakers, etc., the majority are not going to do what is needed. That said, I can just imagine that when Atmos titles become more frequent, the majority of home viewers/listeners with their non-Atmos capable HTIB systems, some with just soundbars, will THINK they are watching in Atmos and will tell others that they have an Atmos system and just watched ______ in Atmos the other night and wow, it sounds so much better with Atmos. Like wider soundstage, better imaging, etc. But, many will complain and say their Atmos disc was defective because they did NOT hear a single sound coming from the ceiling (this even though they have no Atmos speakers or any Atmos system). Or they'll decry Atmos as a fraud because they didn't hear anything special. And, there will be those who rave about the better sound with Atmos, especially the sound coming from the ceiling, even though they too have no Atmos speakers or system. In other words, they'll be acting just like typical audiophiles.

Hopefully, I will still have WAF in a year. I think I only got one now is because she wants a new car. She will probably get one sooner than a year and my leverage will be gone...lol For what it's worth... Don't get me started on reflective Atmos speakers either... Yeah...I don't see how reflecting a sound off a wall(or ceiling in this case) would produce good results. If you a sound to come from a place...just stick a speaker there

Okay,so lemme ask this, especially since it is such a boring Friday.. We have all these speakers all over the place (up to 16, even more) but yet we have only ONE video display. Even if it is one of those big 60" screens, that is still just sitting there in the front of the room whereas now we have sound coming from all over the place. So why don't they make an IMAX-type big height screen that reaches up to the ceiling so you can actually SEE the what is making the sounds that are coming from the Atmos speakers on the ceiling? After all in real life if you hear something above your head, you're gonna look, right? With today's primitive one-screen system, if you do that all you're gonna see is the ceiling. How realistic is that? And why stop at just a full-height monitor screen? There ought to be satellite screens positioned around the room as well so you can see stuff coming at you from the sides and rears, too.

because sound doesn't create nausea (for the most part)...and if you were meant to see things all around you at all times ...you would have eyes everywhere (think of circle vision at disneyworld)...Our ears are where they are so we can tell where a sound is located....not necessarily to look at it

Personally, when I hear something happen behind me, or zoom around behind me, I reflexively turn and look at it..... which can be very annoying when all I see is blank wall after I turn. That's why, while I like surround for ambience (stuff I don't have any inclination to see), I find "audio action" behind me to be just plain annoying and distracting most of the time. true....but you can hear something and know where it is and not need to look at it but my main point...nausea

I'm reminded of the old Disneyland attraction where you went in a room with screens all around and saw 360 deg films of majestic scenery. I remember the Grand Canyon and maybe something patriotic like New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. We probably still need a sphere with a totally enveloping display - like Dr. Zavier in the X-Men.

Live action (in person) and on a screen(s) are two totally different animals. Of course they're different. But why should that cause nausea? Not sure. But it 100% does. And it's why circle vision has gone extinct at disneyworld (360 screen) except in China in EPCOT
