You can put the "middle top" directly above you. And the top fronts on the ceiling so they are 45deg in front of you. (Simple right triangle math) measure from your ears sitting down to ceiling. That's how far in front of the mlp the ceiling speakers should be. Yes in theory (Dts:x at this point is vaporware) this will be fine for Dts:x For best atmos your surrounds shouldn't be that high. They should be at most 1' above ear level I was thinking...Would it be possible to mount the RS-7 on a swivel TV mount off the back wall similar to this: www.crutchfield.com/p_051VSF409/Sanus-VSF409.html?tp=1416&awkw=75640444825&awat=pla_with_promotion&awnw=g&awcr=47645826985&awdv=cEDIT: I would of course have to build out a piece of plywood or something. Then just swivel it into place when I'm going watch a movie. or Could I just mount it directly on the back wall. The RS-7s have 2 tweeters: www.klipsch.com/rs-7-surround-speaker/details

I was thinking about going with a 5.1.4(I finally picked up another pair of 8.2s) but I don't think I have the room for it. The room is only 14x16 and the seating is against the back wall. I already have 2 ceiling speakers directly above the couch. My question is: Will this give a proper height effect? I haven't yet moved down my RS7s to ear level, but plan to. Based on dolby's specs, they should be 30-50 degrees behind the seating area. That is obviously not going to be possible. I plan on installing 2 at 45 degrees in front of seating area. Should I just remove the 2 over the seating area and just go with 5.1.2?

7.1.2 would be the best layout for a 9 channel processor since the rear channels help fill in for the lack of 4 ceiling speakers, however if you absolutely cannot move your seating away from the wall then go with 5.1.4

Thats from a Dolby guy at CEDIA but we all have our own experiences.

So I should just leave the 2 channels directly over seating e en though its not to dolby specs? Also...the plan is to incorporate dts-x in the future.
