Any owners? Thoughts? Suggestions?
I'm finally going to take the plunge into vinyl and am debating on the RPM3 or going a less expensive route like the debut carbon or Rega RP1.
What do you think?

Thanks Nick. That's substantially more than I am willing to spend for the turntable. Looks great though!

Go for the new RPM 5. Stick with their straight carbon arm

There is a big difference between the entry level tables and the next tier up. I started with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon and after it developed a nasty hum I just got a VPI Traveler. I can't say that i was happy with the carbon's longevity.
Are you against buying used? If you are ok with it Soundstagedirect.com has a trade in program and they get some nicd trade ins that they resell.
I believe that they have a traveler for around $900 and you could have them mount a Ortofon Red.
You could also go really inexpensive and get a U-Turn Audio Orbit Plus.

Isn't funny how we say I am looking for something and someone thinks I want this mega gem. I think allot a great choices for Pops bracket of price, but which one? Tough call. What real performance value, and no I don't think you have to blow your budget. Rega, Projekt, Music Hall, and more have some great bargains while still fulfilling your vinyl playback desires. It is really a matter of how much further in vinyl you want to go. Most don't need a pricey spread, however some insist on it. Fun our hobby huh?

Okay, Pop are you talking about the Project RPM3 or 1.3, because if you are talking about the RPM3 it is 999.00, has a carbon fiber tone arm and a 10 inch arm. If you are talking about the 1.3, $499 it has a 8.6 inch carbon fiber tone are, both of these are S shaped like the old DJ turntable and yes there is a theory behind the S shape, but I won't go into that here. The Project Debut Carbon has a straight tone arm, which is Carbon fiber as well. The Debut Carbon is cheaper has a good Ortofon Red cartridge, removable interconnects and VTA adjustments. The Debut Carbon will take the Project speed control, but I'm not sure the RPM 3 or 1.3 will. The Rega has soldered on interconnects, no VTA and is very limited in it's adjustments, but it is a decent table.
For the Rega if your cartridge is too tall, you will have problems and Rega fixed this in some of their other tables, ie RPM 3 by allowing you to use shims, which I think you can do with this table. The biggest difference between the tables is Rega has less adjustment/control for the end user, because Rega wants a friendlier set up. The Carbon and 1.3, or 3 have more control to make adjustments and the motor for the RPM 1.3 or RPM3 are separated from the table to reduce vibrations and the RPM3 has a better motor to reduce noise even moor so it is the better table of the three. If I were going to spend $999, if you are talking about the RPM3, there are much better tables to be had. My advise if you are starting out, start with the Debut Carbon, which gives you some room to grow with cartridge choices and adjustments and decide if vinyl is for you with a low cost to you. This table will give you the fundamentals of turntable set-up. If getting the Carbon eventually look at a speed control device because all belt drive tables except the VPI Classics 1-3 have speed variations, direct drive tables eliminated this, but they have there own problems as well. Please look on sites like Audio Advisor ,Music Direct Soundstage Direct because you can get awesome deals there on Demo Model tables and yes I have heard about some people having hum issues with the Carbon and others not, also buying used if you buy from a dealer can be an option, good luck, any in debt questions PM me.
