So, long story short I just set up my XMC-1 and noticed that the subwoofer sound was lagging, updated the firmware to 3.1 (I had one of the original shipped models, just hadn't set it up until about 2 weeks ago) and it seems to have fixed that. However, we were watching a blu-ray last night and sure enough the center channel dropped out. I had to cycle the inputs to get it to pick up. This was a problem I had with the UMC that never got fixed and was hoping it wasn't a problem with the XMC. Any word on this getting fixed?

I never had that problem with the XMC-1. You already had it with the UMC, so try swapping the speaker around and cables. It looks to me like the problem

+1...given you had the issue with the UMC-1, sounds like your issue is elsewhere. I have never had or even heard of an issue like this with the XMC-1.

And I DID have a problem with occassional no output from the center channel, but it was with music in "All Stereo" (all channels playing or supposed to). That went away and never came back with the firmware updates. I think 2.0 was the first update I used before ending with 3.1. Have no clue what a "lagging" subwoofer sound is. Bill |

Thanks all. The only components it could be are the XMC, the amp, or the speaker. I changed the amp so I don't think it's that so it is either the center speaker or the XMC. With the UMC it happened maybe 3 or 4 times a month. Since the center channel drop out was a known issue unfortunately with the UMC I never bothered to try a different speaker. If it happens again with the XMC I guess I could try that but it's not something that is repeatable (as far as I know) it just happened randomly.
The lagging subwoofer - sorry, didn't explain that well. I was demoing some music and I noticed the the bass was a split second off - late. Couldn't notice that in a movie but in some music where the bass is prevalent it was obvious. I got my XMC in August of 2014 but like I said just got it set up so it had the original firmware on it. I updated that to 3.1 this weekend and it solved the bass issue completely.

I got my XMC in August of 2014 but like I said just got it set up  OMG, whenever I get new Emotive gear its like 16 seconds till it's out of the box and being set up. Maybe 16 minutes if I have to drive home with it to set up. I did have one occasion where the USP-1 wasn't set up for 16 hours because I picked it up in Melbourne and had to drive 1,000 k's home before I could set it up. I can't imagine waiting 16 days. BUT 16 MONTHS, THAT'S AMAZING ! Merry Xmas Gary |

What is the source that feeds the XMC-1 during center drop out? Is it the same source you used when you experienced the center drop out with the UMC-1? both my oppo blu ray player and my cable box have experienced this with the UMC. I haven't played my cable box yet and the drop out happened first time last night with my oppo. Only watched 3 movies with the new XMC so haven't spent much time with it. |

I would explore various settings in the Oppo and the XMC-1 to get them 'on the same page' so to speak. I think that is where the problem lay and the cure will be found. The problems you had with the UMC-1 and now the XMC-1 are more than likely from the Oppo settings that never got corrected. Oppos are great players but aren't without their faults either. I doubt there is anything wrong with your XMC-1.

So, technically cables are part of the system. Have you 100% ruled those out? If so, I am betting on the Oppo or the center speaker if you have changed the amp. On the center channel dropout with the UMC-1...I still own a UMC-1, and I never heard of any issue with center channel dropouts. Total audio dropout, yes (which I only had early on with early FW's and fast-forwarding certain DVD's). But, never heard of center channel dropouts. And, all that said - I have to ask the dumb question here. Are you 100% sure you are not accidentally switching to 2-channel and that's why the center stops playing? I started watching a Blu-ray and skipped to the next chapter; no centre. I paused the player, hit play again and the centre came back. I'm on FW 3.1 and the audio was Dolby True HD. It wasn't repeatable so maybe it falls into the "HDMI glitch" camp. |

I don't know what type of center speaker you have, but I have a Martin Logan Stage that was dropping out occasionally. The electostatic transducer requires a power supply and after several weeks of swapping cables, settings, reboots, etc., it turned out the Stages's power supply was the problem. I contacted ML and got a replacement and all's good now. It's usually more difficult finding the source of a problem than fixing it. I hope your problem is as easily solved.

The subwoofer issue might just be an "out of phase thing"? I've had that before, just have to dial in the phase on the sub until it beats in time with the speakers.

I've had a similar issue. Quickly solved by pausing and hitting play or changing inputs to something else and back. Time required to "solve" is about 3 seconds.
I get it a lot on Sundays when I'm frequently changing DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket channels
I have a hunch that it's an HDMI handshake issue. I'd rate this problem as a 0 on a scale of 1-10.

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I ran into this same issue Saturday night. My XMC-1 was purchased a few months after it first came out. We were watching the second Captain America movie on bluray with friends. Towards the end of the movie the center channel sound just dropped out. Voices were weak and coming from the front right and left speakers. Again, weak and hard to hear. At first I thought it was part of the film having not viewed it in a long time. One of our friends said, "I think you just blew out your speakers". I didn't know what to do. Then the sound came back to normal. A few minutes later, it did it again. I hit pause, inspected the speaker connections, they were fine. Hit Play and the sound came back to normal. It continued till the end without an issue.
Thus was very perturbing.
Yesterday, I did a reboot of the XMC-1 by using the rear on/off switch. I've been using the Video On Standby mode the entire time it's been available. I also used the suggestion above of turning Dolby Management to "All Off".
Question on that, does it "hold" or do you have to turn it off each time you use it?
My player is an Oppo 103.
