Nope - just audio.

1. I haven't noticed a lot of difference between HDMI and USB, but HDMI may be a little better. Interesting, I would have thought the opposite and that's the only way I tried. But it sounds like I should give HDMI a chance too.

I have about a 10' cable run from my PC to my XMC-1. I think the USB cable length should be as short as possible to ensure high quality data transfer.

My setup. Roon on a (pretty powerful) desktop PC. Connected to my Emotiva XMC-1 via HDMI (Yep - I get that beautiful purple connection status icon!). Emotiva connected via HDMI to my 65" TV. I have the HDMI audio output selected on the Roon and I extend my Win 10 to display the Roon control on my TV. Works FANTASTICALLY. Bought a cheap (and effective) remote keypad with a mousepad. Signal path info: Is that a plasma TV? If so doesn't that leave burn-in on your screen. Mark

Yep - I don't leave it like that - I'll switch to DirecTV video once I set up my playlist.

Its stupidly expensive for what it does, when you consider what Kodi does for video getting high quality metadata from free public sites its hard to justify paying for a subscription. Sure it looks nice but its not for me. Let's just say I don't really care to read that much extra stuff like who the drummer is married to or how many children the bassist has and how old these children are now.

It's beyond metadata like that. The presentation (GUI) is great, the ability to "focus", the ability easily to play zones, etc.
It's free to try, and it plays very nicely with the Emotiva XMC-1

The presentation (GUI) is great, the ability to "focus", the ability easily to play zones, etc. It's free to try, and it plays very nicely with the Emotiva XMC-1 I like the (virtually limitless) GUI customization possibilities of foobar2000 much better, especially with components like JScript Panel, Waveform Seekbar, and a couple others. On top of that, foobar2000 supports two boatloads more file formats than Roon does (including stuff like SACD/DVD-A .iso files, .cue sheets, m-TAGS, etc. etc.). As for the ability to "focus", foobar2000 uses autoplaylists for this. You can also use a library viewer like Facets to go with that, and JScript Panel also adds advanced filtering/query capabilities in case you're not too afraid to write a few lines of JScript code to satisfy your own personal needs. Zones are possible through the foo_UPnP component, and BubbleUPnP server includes support for OpenHome Media (ohMedia). Everything I have described not only is free to try, but also totally REMAINS free after that, and there's absolutely no doubt that it will also work very nicely with your XMC-1.

I work in IT, and actually prefer that most of the stuff I use at home to be simple and automated. I do enough clever stuff at work

I'm in mobile app development and enjoy the elegance Roon brings once I'm away from work. At the end of the day, Roon's value is combining TIDAL and files stored on a NAS into one interface with super deep metadata. I've said I wouldn't be willing to pay for Roon if I were not streaming but it's been such a liberating experience from iTunes that I hope budgeting works out to enable Roon usage long term.

I do enough clever stuff at work You work in IT, but writing a few lines of JScript is what you define as "clever stuff"? The guy nicknamed marc2003, who wrote all the scripts that come with JScript Panel excepting JSPlaylist, had almost no coding experience at the time when he first began to write his scripts, and has written and maintained them entirely during his (limited) hobby time so I really can't imagine what's been keeping you for so long from at least taking a quick peek at what can already be done with these scripts.

Yves - it's the same philosophy that has me taking my car in to get an oil change. At 56, I could certainly do it myself, but I can afford to pay somebody else, while freeing myself from the grit and grime and the fear of getting trapped under the car due to a failure in jack stands

Anyone tried Roon with the Sonore MicroRendu? If so could you provide some impressions?

Add in stolen GPS, radar detectors, loose change and radio presets messed up. Grrr.. With Jiffy Lube, I hang around the car and lock the doors while they're under it messing with the oil and filter! They've no business inside the car.

So I've looked but I can't see what they charge "partners" in terms of licensing/certification fees for implementing an "end point" in a piece of hardware. If it's cheap, it might solve my desire to stream directly to the RMC-1 ...
