I have a couple of questions, if I may: 1. I understand that there is a second upgrade in the works, which will include Hdmi 2.0a, HDCP 2.2, and ATMOS/DTS-X functionality. Since that 2nd upgrade will also include an update of the Hdmi board, may I know whether it is in anyway dependent on this present one. 2. If I should skip the present upgrade (because I do not immediately require HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, and I would rather keep my XMC-1 for use until the 2nd upgrade, if that is an option), will the 2nd upgrade bring my XMC-1 fully up to speed, or will it have to go through this first upgrade prior to getting the 2nd one? To elaborate more on this, let me refer to KeithL's post from August 31st, on another thread: ********************Aug 31, 2016 7:24:47 GMT -4 KeithL said: Full clarification..... The "current" HDMI update board, which will be available as an upgrade in a few weeks, and which will be included in all new units shipping from now on, has one input and one output which support HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. This fulfills all the requirements for 4k, including the copy protection, WHICH MEANS THAT THIS BOARD WILL PASS ALL "STANDARD 4k SOURCES" (it will pass the signal from 4k satellite and cable boxes, and from 4k disc players). This board is at the top of the unit, and requires you to remove and replace quite a few screws, and several cables - but doesn't require any soldering. While we PREFER to do the installation here, we will probably allow people to do it themselves if they really want to. This board will NOT support HDR10 (which is part of HDMI 2.0a), and probably won't work with the 4k version of Dolby Vision HDR. There will be ANOTHER HDMI board upgrade around year end 2016 that will upgrade multiple inputs and outputs (probably all of them) to HDMI 2.0a. This future board will support HDMI 2.0a (and, of course, HDCP 2.2), and WILL support HDR10 (HDR10 is part of HDMI 2.0a) and Dolby Vision at 4k. (It may also support HDMI 2.0b - but I'm not prepared to even discuss that yet .) (my emphasis -- sahmen)*************************** Keith clearly speaks of another HDMI board upgrade that is, probably scheduled for the end of this year, and that would involve multiple inputs and outputs ("probably all of them") to HDMI 2.0a, and HDCP 2.2 etc. etc. I am wondering whether that second upgrade, which sounds like a more thorough one, is in some way dependent on this current one. If I should decide to skip this present one, and only go for the second one, will it bring me fully up to speed? (put in a different way, if I can wait to get both HDMI 2.0a (or b), and HDCP 2.2 upgrades at the end of year, an upgrade which will make the present advertised one redundant and obsolete, then why should I get the present one at all, if I can skip it without missing anything, especially if I do not immediately require Hdmi 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 functionalities?) I am also wondering whether it is that second upgrade which will come with the Atmos/DTS-X compatibility upgrades. I am one of those who will have to send my XMC-1 back to Franklin for all these upgrades ; I shall not attempt doing any such upgrade (not even the present one) on my own, because I am simply too scared of such DIY adventures to try. If I can send my XMC-1 to Franklin for a one-stop HDMI 2.0a(and/or b) + HDCP 2.2 + Atmos/DTS compatibility set of upgrades, then that would be my preferred option. I would like to avoid having to send my XMC-1 out to Franklin on multiple upgrade-related trips if I can help it. That is the reason for all these questions. I would appreciate any useful ideas here that will help me clarify my own upgrade path and strategy. Thanks.

I think the new HDMI board is not included with Atmos. The Atmos update is an additional cost. of ~$500 plus ~$350 for the new board

Are you asking a technical question or a business decision question? Technically is see no reason why we can't go straight to the Atmos/DTS-X and HDMI/HDCP upgrade, as they are board swaps involving the same board in the case of the HDMI/HDCP upgrade. I also assume that there will be firmware updates as well Business decision wise, that's a question only Emotiva can answer. I draw comfort form Dan's post a while where he said that we could wait for the full upgrade. Maybe try a search, Dan doesn't post that often so it should be easy to spot. Cheers Gary

So for the fully upgraded XMC-1 will require a return of the XMC-1 and an additional $850.00?? Just a reconfermation of the statement by goodfellas27 And confirmed by dan Laufman

I don't plan to do Atmos in my current setup, but I do want the second HDMI board.

So far, all of the upgrades we have planned are totally independent. Each HDMI upgrade consists of a new replacement HDMI board; and Atmos/DTS-X is totally independent (you don't need HDMI 2.0 or HDCP 2.2 for Atmos or DTS-X). No takers? Yes, we/ I get that, but for a stateof the art fully functional XMC-1 I will need to pony up $850. . I say that becauce, will you really find any Atmos inabled discs without copy portedtion? Easies viewing and operation will require both upgrades. What say you?

If not, well, nevermind...

You still have to update the DVD player to 4k or your Projector or your TV and then you MAY choose to upgrade your XMC-1 to the new HDMI and/or Atmos board but you don't have to. You could just bypass the video portion of the XMC-1 and run the video from your new Oppo UDP 203 (like how I stuck that in here for you) HDMI1 straight to the display and use the 2nd HDMI out for audio only into the XMC-1. You still don't have Atmos or DTSx and if you decide you want it then upgrade and enjoy immersive sound on one of the top audio components around for far less than what you would pay for another manufacturer's product. Personally I wil be upgrading my HDMI board and Atmos/DTSx next year when the latter is released by Emotiva. Can't wait! Oh and then buy the new Oppo UDP203 and a new projector $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
