I too wonder about a firmware upgrade where the "bug fixes" are not identified on a line item basis.
Without this how do you know whether to do the upgrade or not?

The manufacturers of many computer products seem to assume that you will ALWAYS want or need "the latest firmware". In fact, when you open the box on many of them, the first thing you see is a card telling you to throw away the disc and download the latest version. In general, our attitude towards updates is that, unless you have a bug that you expect the new firmware to fix, you probably don't need to update. In most cases we're NOT talking about widespread bugs that affect most users; we're talking about small flaws that affect only a few users. We most certainly aren't suggesting that it will make your XMC-1 that is already working just fine SOUND any different. When we issue a firmware update we usually list the IMPORTANT differences - like added features. Firmware version 4.0 is required IF YOU HAVE THE NEW HDMI BOARD - because it won't work correctly without it. And it added some extra options under HDMI CEC. IF WE CONSIDER A FIRMWARE UPDATE TO BE MANDATORY, WE'LL ANNOUNCE THAT IT IS, ON THE WEBSITE AND IN THE INSTRUCTIONS.I too wonder about a firmware upgrade where the "bug fixes" are not identified on a line item basis. Without this how do you know whether to do the upgrade or not?

Isn't it time we had an updated user manual? The last one is for 3.0 firmware. 3.1 included new features and 4.0 included a new HDMI board where, as far as we can tell from posts here, the 2.0 ports are not well documented. Now we discover, "extra options under HDMI CEC" as well which I don't recall ever being mentioned before.

Why don´t you just start to provide a change history for every update and archive these on the product page on the website?

Sorry, being an IT guy that has worked with everything from DEC PDP/11s through current technology, I am used to a change log when updates are provided for a product. That is IT and this audio I know, but Emotiva intentionally or unintentionally has created a group of users that think they are part of the team. Being part of the team (or insiders if you prefer) there is a feeling that they should know things that others don't.
Folks that buy Pioneer, Marantz, Bose, etc. are buying products, Emotiva users are encouraged to feel part of the family if you will. Members of a family know everything from the fact that cousin Jill had a full ride scholarship to Cornell and decided to join the Peace Corps, to the story about cousin Jethro who was the guy that put the outhouse on top of the police station.

For a prosessor that is stated as running Linux a proper change log is something that should be expected...it's not the hardware that is changing...it's all bits and bytes.
Either show the whole hand or keep it in your pocket don't give us a single finger and think it's ok

wizardofoz - I disagree. Emotiva can do anything they want, and it's not uncommon for companies not to release all information to the public.

Documentation has never been a strong suit for this company. ( i have been here since the LMC launch) I have grown used to it and don't expect it to change. It just isn't how they do things.

Don't know what all the hub bub is regarding firmware.
I've been takin' it as it comes since 2014 (1. something.....) Along the progression since then, I took note of any issues that I was experiencing and got DIRECT WITH TECH SUPPORT AT EMOTIVA with my inquiries. Actually, it was very pleasing to see the issues (a relative few) go away with each tweak that came up with the firmware updates. It was also gratifying to see one in particular regarding the OSD be corrected in 4.0, because I was the one who discovered that glitch! This is a company that truly listens to its customers AND RESPONDS.
I read some of the stuff on this forum, from time to time and think, MAYBE...I'm on the wrong website or somethin' since the experiences of some seem to be so different from my own. Hats off to the folks at Emotiva.

So the .PDF file that came with all of the firmware versions that lists all of the "new features", "feature enhancements" & "bug fixes" wasn't documentation enough?

Trying to update to firmware 4.0. My XMC-1 just keeps reading No USB Stick. I've made sure the stick I'm using is FAT32 formatted and only has the update file. I've tried both the front and back ports and power cycled a few times. Any ideas?

I once had that happen and the alternative stick solved the problem. Bill

If 405x5's (does that refer to the El Toro "Y" by any chance) suggestion does not work, I don't have an XMC-1, but my Yamaha RX-A1020 AVR will only flash from a USB 2.0 FAT32 drive, but not from a USB 3.0 FAT32 stick. I know its supposed to be downward compatible, but this AVR is 3 for 3 on being picky this way.
