I ended up switching it off and on at the back. Worked fine then. Noticed a couple of fix "..." messages whilst doing it. I upgraded mine yesterday although I'm on the original HDMI board. Seems OK so far. I still have the pops. The fix messages I saw flashing up were DHCP and SSH.

The fix messages were obviously just what the new firmware was showing it was doing as it was going through the update.

The 4.0 firmware doesn't solve the trigger problem where if the XMC-1 is waking from hibernation it turns the triggers on, then off again close to the end of its boot-up, then on again. The problem is described partway through this thread: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/42355/xmc-1-trigger-working. It doesn't occur if you are using the HDMI passthrough on standby option. I was hoping...

^ No way it will be fixed - the flaw is in the hardware. The default setting when you power the board is 'ON', so when you cold start the unit it is ON until the software have chance to access the triggers hardware, then it have to set it to 'OFF' until it boots up completely to be able to set the DACs and other electronics to predictable state. They should have been designed triggers 'OFF' by default, then smooth operation would be possible. But unless the control board (or whatever board they use for triggers) is changed we are stuck with this XMC-1 startup behaviour.

I was hoping... I have set the start up input to be the front analog input which is unused in my system. If I simply turn on the XMC (I don't use video-on standby) no triggers turn on and none of my amps do either. Selecting an active input then turns on the required triggers. So no trigger activity at all when mine starts up. None.

I also don't. Must be hardware differences as I have tried all possible combinations, but to no avail.

Installing firmware update 4.0 and ran into a problem. Update was moving along fine, then froze at "XMC-1 Starting...". Been like that for 30+ minutes. I left a message for Tech Support, but may not get callback until tomorrow. Any helpful suggestions?

Yep - don't go near it until you call into Nashville. I suggest you call them first thing in the morning.

It'll probably finish after the CMA Country Show is over, then it can direct its attention back to the upgrade (the unit was built in Nashville, after all).

anyone know if this breaks any of the rather flakey iOS/Android remote apps that are out there? most importantly the Emotiva iOS app...that works on my iph but crashes relentlessly on my iPad...go figure...

has anyone updated using the Emotiva USB stick that came with the original XMC's? This is as I recall much smaller than 1GB ... maybe as small as 64MB...Ill go check
EDIT yes it was only 64MB ... bloody stingy that size for sure.

Yes, I updated using that stick. As did I .... and here is a little video of the 2nd unit I own being done...seems like SSH and and a few other things flashed by. Seems they have locked out the login to the SSH port with a password. bugger

Regarding the stick capacity, the thinking is probably to have it dedicated to updating only.....less chance of accidentally installing older firmware, or multi puposing, etc.
