I'm going to have to re-read the threads. I thought there were going to be two boards, the one out now, and the upcoming upgrade board which will be an Atmos upgrade and a further HDMI upgrade. There is the current HDMI board. Two other boards are coming....another HDMI board with ALL HDMI updated to latest specs.....and a separate Amos board. Yup, just finished reading the threads, and you are correct, the Atmos board is separate from the HDMI upgrade boards. So, I'm looking at around $500 for the Atmos upgrade, and $350 for the current HDMI upgrade board.

I am going to get the 2nd HDMI board when it becomes available and pass on the Atmos board due to the fact that it's not easy for me to put ceiling speakers in my current family room. Planning on being in the current house another five years or so. At that point I may be looking at another Emotiva processor anyway. I guess $850 (or more) is still cheaper than buying a complete new AV Pre-pro..........

I'm awaiting the new HDMI board myself because the current one won't pass HDR. The Atmos board will only be of interest to me if it offers some other benefits besides Atmos.

We're still waiting on the availability of the new chips (and the programming for them). We currently expect this to be available early Q2 (2017). I assume that the same chips/programming are in the plan for the RMC-1 (at least I would try to use common parts whenever possible). Like everyone is saying: 2017 is going to be an "interesting" ... oh wait, "exciting" year around here! Casey

Hey all,
I'm considering picking up an XMC-1 now since A) they are on sale for $1999 and B) My Marantz receiver finally bit-the-dust and I can't play Zelda Breath of the Wild until I get a new processor.
Did I read correctly that we'll be able to user-install the new HDMI board without having to send the unit it to Emotiva? That would be great as it would save on shipping and time. I'd be willing to pay $1999 now to play Zelda for a few months :-) and then pay a few hundred more later to upgrade to full UHD 4K HRD pass-through as, right now, I have no 4K sources or projector (that's hopefully next year's big thrill).
Thoughts? Advice? Witty banter?
Thanks!
-Dave

Thats the last i heard, you could install HDMI board but not the atmos board. I get what they are saying though, would be nice to not have to ship it but they really need to be able to be certain its done and checked correctly.

Depends what month you call 'Summer', which is what Emotiva said on the podcast. It could be August.

Yes ; Dan said its looking like July ; generally worded to wait till summer .. unexpected things can come up of course.. Was surprised to hear they have a back order in for the version 2 board [1 in 1 out hdmi2.0] as it was too popular The av switching chip has a long lead time so hard to plan for . As long as they have enough stock for the hdmi2.0a ; it will surely fly of the shelves

However, I believe (according to Dan's CES comments) the "V3" board will be HDMI 2.0b compliant which adds support for the "extended" HDR formats. For me, the V2 board was an nonstarter simply because it's HDMI 2.0 which adds support for HDCP 2.2, but does not support HDR at all. With the new (V3) board being the latest HDMI standard across all inputs/outputs along with full OSD overlay, I'll wait. Hopefully, they still plan to make this a "user installable" upgrade...

Yes Doc ; shows how popular some of the streaming services are [the ones without HDR at least] . Seen to many references here for 2.0a and its lodged somehow Yes ; when Dan said that I thought at the time if only our incompetent digital tv channels down under can start sending HLG HDR metadata so that .b prefix can earn its keep Well ;I can understand why a main board like the atmos/dts-x board is in house ; harder to get to for one ; not to mention rerouting the zone pre outs etc; so if its just a few snap lock pcb leads and screws up top I hope so ? Now when is that new hdmi 3.1 board due Me being facetious I hasten to add.

I too have noticed that many of the members keep thinking/typing HDMI 2.0a, when I too heard from the CES comments that this V3 HDMI video board will be HDMI 2.0b compliant.

Correct. 2.0b on all in's and out's. Use three of the big Panasonic HDMI parts.
The v2 HDMI board was always intended to be an interim solution until the new v3 board was ready. Remember, there is only one part on the market at there moment that can do what is needed and that is the Panasonic part. ADI, SI, and others are very late coming in with their 2.0b parts. In ADI's case it's pushing 2 years...
And to add to the pain, Panasonic is very slow to work with and documentation, etc. is very sparse. It took over 6 months just to get them to talk to us. Longer to get NDA's executed, etc. You get the idea, it's not for the faint of heart. It takes a big design effort to implement the parts, but they are extremely good.
So, hang in there. We've got them working and they will be available in the summer.
Maybe I should concentrate on speakers... MDF, a table saw, a hole saw, off the shelf parts, and some black paint... sounds easy! 😂

Will the new HDMI board pass Dolby Vision? I have read in a few places not all boards will pass it.
