Little disheartening they need to add code to remove static but at least they know about it. ***Although I am not a software engineer, so I have no idea if this is normal or not.***
Makes me wonder if there is something inherently wrong with the RMC-1 to be honest. If all the fixes need "work arounds"
Not sure we would get a completely honest answer though.
My opinion... the static is a product of how the upmixed channels are being created by the chip. Not that there is static originally there and it needs to be removed. Why would you need to "upmix" native non channel locked Dolby Atmos Tracks?

deewan = Job Your patience are remarkable. Agree, He should get his RMC-1 for free. +1. And refunded or given EMO bucks for any expenses he has incurred from shipping his unit back. I mean we are talking 8 months here folks.

Or, is it technically "your patience is remarkable."?

deewan = Job Your patience are remarkable. Agree, He should get his RMC-1 for free. I have not see anyone as dedicated as him to helping a company out when he hasn't really needed to, I feel like he is one of the main reasons why the RMC-1 getting better as he is continually pushing to make it better. Thanks for the compliments twism and Bonzo. It has been a long road with a lot of bumps. As I'm sure you all know it's not just me trying to get this processor working but I appreciate the recognition. I've spent enough time speaking to Damon on the phone over the past few months I'll be upset if I don't get a Christmas card from him this year. I've lost my cool a few times with the RMC and I've questioned how Emotiva conducts their issue resolution and regression testing, but it's the benefit of being able to pick up the phone and call Emotiva to speak to some of the nicest people that has kept me interested in seeing this through to the end. [joke]I'd wager some of the Emotiva staff want to get the RMC working perfectly simply so they don't have to talk to me on the phone or read my posts anymore[/joke].

So have you got a beta firmware with a fix for the middle channels? If yes, what’s your opinion of RMC now as it stands?

Have been experimenting with the apps some more. When the unit is in pcm modes the network connection to the app works fine. In DD 2.0 and 5.1 surround the app also behaves. If you try to start the app when the unit is in DTSHD mode (& I would expect high bitrate DD as well) the network connection to the app fails EVERY time. However, if you start the app and connect while the unit is in pcm or DD 2.0/5.1 the app will continue to function properly if you switch to DTSHD mode. Those of you still having difficulty making the apps work try pausing your source before connecting. Curious to say the least...

My opinion... the static is a product of how the upmixed channels are being created by the chip. Not that there is static originally there and it needs to be removed. My biggest concern was that an issue I reported, and continued to report seemed to be met with "it must be your setup/equipment and we've spent a lot of time trying to fix your issues" instead of "let us regression test and make sure we actually fixed the issue and ensure the item is resolved". If the fix was there, but then commented out (deactivated) there was not the proper amount of regression testing before the FW was released. Last night while playing a stereo source in auto surround mode, I heard a faint very electronic static type noise. The source was a Super Nintendo, so I knew the music should have not had any complex acoustics. I changed the mode to direct, and all of the noise disappeared. I think it was being caused by the upmixing. I would have never thought to try changing modes without reading this comment, so THANKS for your dedication to this thing. I would totally agree that the upmixing is causing issues.

After getting frustrated with ver. 1.4 I downgraded back to 1.3. With ver1.3 everything behaved in ways we've all come to expect as usual. Wanting to give things a second chance I re-installed 1.4 and paid even closer attention to what was happening when re-calibrating levels. Ver. 1.4 fails to save subwoofer level changes. If you want your level changes to stick this is what finally worked for me. 1. Set levels 2. Save your new configuration. 3. Power cycle the unit. 4. Restore your saved configuration. The restored configuration seems to finally "stick."

Does anyone know with this new set of issues whether the XMC-2 has been pushed back? I think the last podcast mentioned end of July but the RMC-1 continues to be riddled which translates across all heir other platforms.

For me - You are "THE FIELD TESTER OF THE YEAR" - Really hope - that you can stop testing the RMC-1 and start enjoying one day.

Btw could this problem happen to any upmixing channels or is it concentrated to top middles? That is a great question and one I can't be certain I know the answer too. I experienced it a few times on overhead middles, but I believe I also heard it in a some channels while watching a lower channel count 7.1 lossless soundtrack. However, I never went back to test it. So my answer is a bit mixed. I think it could happen. It makes sense that it could happen. I may have experienced it happening, but I don't have proof and I never attempted to reproduce the issue to confirm. Perhaps one of the Emotiva folks can chime in and explain what was causing the static and then shed some light on if it would happen when upmxing something like 5.1 to 7.1 or 7.1 to 7.1.2 (just some examples).
