I would like to discuss the latest firmware 1.7 ... ah it's true it is still not available? Call Emotiva and see if there's an update. On Saturday, Dan, Ray, and Damon said they considered it done/ready and just awaiting Lonnie's sign-off, but Lonnie was out of town for family events. Mark I'm back in town and I would just like to say I am sorry to everyone for missing the open house. Found a couple of things I didn't like in the latest beta code so we are making a few changes. Still pushing to get it released very soon, I just want to do as much testing as possible before it leaves the building. I want to thank everyone for their support and patience for the release of this code set. So many things are going on and its all good. Thanks, Lonnie

No ... the only problem in my life ... is the RMC-1 ...;-) That's pretty funny. Firmware releases in the past usually get delayed during national and international trade shows … when "all hands on deck" is the order of the day from CEO Dan. Lonnie just happen to take some time off during a mini-trade show in Franklin, TN. lonnie : it would be really nice when you post … to talk about RMC-1 development/technical stuff … like how did devel improve issues when 2 displays are connected at the same time or how did devel address better DTS sync'g or what kind of progress are you making on getting dts upmixing on dolby tracks and vise versa. Don't need dates, just insight. Thx.

Lonnie just happen to take some time off during a mini-trade show in Franklin, TN. I guess it's hard for Lonnie to plan the timing of family members' weddings. I know how much my vote counts in other peoples' weddings...if you have a secret for how you plan those things, please share in the green room! Meanwhile...back to the topic. Mark

Owners are well aware of the "Waiting Game". Many of us have extensive R&D backgrounds.

While we are waiting. Does the RMC-1 do DSD-over-PCM on its USB Stream input yet? I know this was planned. Just wanted to know if anyone has tried it before I start moving cables around. Thanks!

Just to clarify, this is an RMC-1, the XMC-1 never did this so it was unexpected, I assume possibly because of a different chipset? There was probably an ATV screensaver running through the video, but the TOSLink 2 input was selected for audio, not much else going on. I use low-power standby, but rerouted a power cable just before this session so it was a cold reboot. I also was listening to my two channel system and had just swapped the PA-1’s out, and my VTL tube amps back in, but it seems very unlikely this would have any effect. I’ll be listening again today and will do another power cycle before, I’ll also try some vinyl to see how an analog input acts (though I know tone happens digitally). I’ll also try it through the HT amps and speakers. Right, I was surprised by this especially because the XMC-1 did not do it. To be fair however, in the 70’s tone controls were analog (except in the studio and I do remember the first digitally recorded LP ... still a fave), but your point is well taken, this is not a problem I’ve experienced in the past with any gear. Just to clarify something here. When you make changes in the digital realm, the system has to update. Depending on how much time delay is applied to the particular channels, you can get a slight stutter. For comparison, some other brands will mute the output during system updates. This means you loose audio for a tenth to half a second. Would everyone prefer a mute over a possible stutter? I'm good either way and would appreciate everyone's thoughts. Lonnie Mute or stutter works for me. So does emulation of another manufacturers product that everyone is comfortable with. New RMC-1L owner here. Still learning.

Hi everyone, As you know we use the forum as a sounding board. Aside from technical or engineering development questions about feature availabilities or product wish list type stuff, what are some things you think we could provide that might help you make a decision about which processor is right for you? Are there any aids that we can provide? Is there anything unclear that you want to know more about? I'd love to know your thoughts! Jessica Perhaps some white papers: 1. On philosophy of use (POU). 2. Expansion of details of system functions - such as bass management; input/output/processing selection and system effects of chosen selections. There seems to be a lot of energy spent on anecdotal discussion. It is occasionally helpful, but often creates more confusion. Thanks. I'm still learning the blog format.

Agreed, sometimes going on about why something doesn’t work as expected or desired doesn’t work toward the goal of improving the product and experience. I finally got it hooked up and say it sounds fantastic!
Still fine tuning but the overall volume sounds substantially lower than the XMC-1. I normally hung around -50 to -40 for most casual sessions. Seems to need to be now -30 same volume. still hooking up the different sources too.
The sub seems to not even exist. Is this an issue? I tried searching but didnt see anything. Thanks

Thanks There have been comments throughout the various FW releases about the subwoofer levels changing. I came in briefly at FW 1.4 but 1.5 came quickly after and I don’t remember my initial settings. I believe however, my subs are set to match my mains (via mic and test tones), and the level seems good to me most of the time, others may set theirs differently. You might consider downloading the external test tones for your system from Dolby (they come in X.X.X flavors), I’ve had some variation with the internal tones and I’m pretty sure I used the Dolby tones last time I did a setup.

@ Paulbe welcome to the happy team of beta testers ... ;-)Thanks for the welcome. I came from a 7.1 setup using the oppo 205 as a player, and control center for the player, phono, and computer audio. Not a bad setup if immersion channels are not used. Still had nits to pick, but most of the nits were in me, not the oppo. I used the balanced outs for front left and right, and the unbalanced outs for the rest. Sound is very high quality. I took a chance on the RMC-1L. My biggest concern was Emotiva’s use of the venerable 5532 op-amp for the analog audio. Why not some Orange Dual Discrete Op-Amps? JK. Sound quality is my biggest concern. Emotiva has done a fabulous job in this area. Overall sound quality is a nice step up from the oppo 205 when used in 7.1 surround. The improvement in sound quality is not trivial. I suspect the full balanced operation of the RMC-1 is the main reason. I also added 4 immersion channels to the setup. Every product has some similarities and some differences in how it interfaces with the user compared to another manufacturers products of the same type. I’ve been living with the RMC-1L for 2 weeks now; on the learning curve and rising. Nits to pick, but I want to make sure I’ve picked all the nits off PaulBe before I pick them off Emotiva and the RMC-1L. Every product of this complexity requires good training for effective use. The user is the most active participant in the training, and the largest determining factor in the quality of the training. The power of the program-ability of the RMC can also get the user in trouble. Learn the system. This is not my daddy’s portable fold down phonograph. I’m going to rely on Lonnie’s words, speaking of FW version 1.7 - “I want to thank everyone for their support and patience for the release of this code set. So many things are going on and its all good.” Thank you Lonnie. It’s all good. I have more important problems in my life than my RMC-1L. Regards

Processor Talk with Damon We held a dedicated processor class with Damon Steele during our Open House 2019 event. www.youtube.com/watch?v=m88gjvJu37s~~~ This is an excellent talk. I think that watching this a couple of times could eliminate a lot of frustration, and answer many questions from new and potential owners. Maybe even help some older owners.

Created a Low Pass house curve via Tone ctrl: +9dB, LP filter @40hz. Set ported subs @ 16Hz. Sounds nice w. Divergent DTS:X (w. External BEQ). Menu/Main_Zone/Trims/Tone then Bass Level = +9, then Bass Frequncy = 40Hz.
