Hi, Today I install my new XMC-2. For the record I am coming from a Anthem MRX720 and before that a XMC-1. So unpack the XMC-2. Thanks Emotiva for the t-shirt :-) The processor is very well pack and all the packaging scream quality. After the unpack ceremony, I plug my speakers and other gears. I have a 5.1.2 setup. For video source I have a cable box, Apple TV, Zappiti Pro and a PC. I did a quick speaker setup and start my first testing. The first good news is that all my HDMI connection seem to work really well. From my cable box 720p device to my 4k Apple TV everything switch fast and work every time. I did many back and forth and for now pretty happy with the stability. Now for the sound quality, it’s early but the XMC-2 first impression do sound better than my calibrated Anthem. The sound seem just right. So I am only at day one but first impression is good. Now I will go and play more critical music and movies and report back in a couples of days. The comparison with the Anthem is appreciated, but could you also let us know how the sound of the XMC-2 compares with that of the older XMC-1?

On the XMC-1 with Dirac the sound was better than not calibrated XMC-2. Dirac in my room make wonder. But I do remember that on my XMC-1 before Dirac, the sound was a bit bright sounding. Clear and detail but a bit on the brighter side. With the XMC-2 thats not the case, the sound feel rich and right, not to bright but also not muddy. Cant wait to calibrate with Dirac. Also for my setup, the HDMI on the XMC-2 seem better than XMC-1. After couples of days of testing not once I’ve got a HDMI problem. Even with a lot of back and forth my testing demand. Also did not yet have to reboot the XMC-2 once. Actually the XMC-2 to date is very stable and work very well. I honestly was not expecting that but like many reports the last update did a big jump in the right direction.

My XMC-2 seems a little warm, a lot warmer than the XMC-1 I had a couple of years previously.
I do plan on purchasing an A/C line filter soon so I will report if it makes a difference but the XMC-1 ran cool from what I remember.
It is running on a dedicated line for all my audio gear.

Not that my XMC-1 gets too warm that I need it but I recently took a unused AC Infinity S8 off my buddy's hands and put it above my XMC-1, they run $80 US, I leave it on Auto and it turns on and off as necessary www.acinfinity.com/receiver-amp-cooling-fans/S8 is rear exhaust, the S9 is top exhaust and the S10 is front exhaust Chad

It was more expensive but its utility was/is unmatched. Exhaust vie front back top bottom or out a tube to wherever you like. They also are either thermostatically controlled or trigger controlled. Love my 5 units. ❤️

The nice thing about the C-12 is that the configuration cane be changed as your system changes.

Just watched John Wick 3. My system is currently 5.1.2, hopefully I can get it to 5.1.4 shortly...meanwhile, holy crap the sound is crazy good. I was blown away by the movie, the sound effects sure helped enhance the movie.
It’s literally one of the best things I’ve ever heard and thank god I got the XMC2 now vs Emotiva waiting for Dirac. I can’t wait to see how much better it’ll sound with Dirac bc it’s pretty unbeatable at this moment. I’m sure I’ll sing a different tune when Dirac arrives but I am literally stunned by how good it sounded.

Very encouraging to not see 170 pages of issues on this XMC-2 page and look forward for the XMC-1 to XMC-2 trade in process to move forward

Too Long But how long is "Too Long"? 15 seconds, 1 minute? I will agree it's "too long." I timed 1 minute 5 seconds from flipping the power switch on the back until the front light turns amber indicating Standby mode. From here it's 10 seconds from pressing On to sound playing.

Did somebody also measured the power consumption when the XMC-2 is in standby mode? Due to the ridiculously high power usage, imho, in "standby modus" of the XMC-1 I always fully power down the XMC-1. I was disappointed to measure 37 Watts all the time, standby or not. I want to power it down to save power, but the boot time is "too long" and video passthrough doesn't work when it's fully off.

I am using my XMC-2 for now 2 weeks and so far so good. I really like the sound quality and did not encounter a bug in 2 weeks, not even a small glitch. Good work Emotiva! Job is not finish far from that but at least the base is now strong enough to build upon on.
Cant wait for Dirac and take full advantage of my investment.
By the way I am using a hdmi 2.1 cable with my Apple TV and HDMI switch fast and lock every first attempt. Even at 60fps HDR.

I feel like I read somewhere that Emotiva extended the return policy of the RMC-1 until they finally release Dirac for it.
If I was to buy an XMC-2 today, would I only get the standard 30-day return, or would I be eligible for the "until Dirac" return policy?

It is really a pity that the power consumption in Stand-By mode is still ridiculously high and that the boot-up time from power switch on hasn't improved.... So no reason for me to upgrade from the XMC-1 to XMC-2 as I'm only using it for a 5.1 setup.

This doesn’t appear to be a high priority item for high end audio but to each his own I guess 😊.
