So for that pure analog balanced input, shall I assume that doesn't include independant analog bass management? If it does.... Yeah!, what he said...

Any information on this "hot rodded analog section"? Better than MMC-1?

Man, I was convinced to stay with the UMC, but now I'm not so sure . . . do as i do. Buy UMC-1 now, the sell it when XMC-1 comes out to get it! Oh yeah, that has merit too . . I just gotta see the finances and sell some gear.

Man, I was convinced to stay with the UMC, but now I'm not so sure . . . I was the other way around. Now I'm not so sure. The biggest bummer for me was that this doesn't upgrade the video section over the UMC. Looks like I will have to keep my DVDO Edge. The internet streaming is the "now" feature, but I don't really get too excited over yet another low resolution music source.

On the topic of only 2 sub woofer outputs, most people don't realize that Emotiva buffers there outputs so that you can have upto 6 cevices connected to a single output without negatively impacting the quality of the output signal. With the XMC-1 you could have 10 to 12 sub woofers running off of those 2 ouputs -- just use a Y-adaptor to keep adding more subs. I am not sure who would ever want to use that many subs, but I am sure there is someone who would give it a try. ;D Yes, but if you just split them, the settings are all the same.

chuckienut, i had the samsung blu-ray 3600 for about 3 weeks before i retuned it when oppo sent me an e-mail that i was next in line for the bdp-83. the samsung had pandora and you can access it through your wireless router. i don't know, but i am assuming the xmc will be easily hooked up to a wireless router. tchaik....... So that means, that the XMC-1 will connect with my wireless DSL modem like my laptops will? Is a wireless modem the same as a wireless router? I still have to bring up Pandora on my desktop computer to have it communicate with my XMC-1? Sorry about the rookie questions. ;D Yes, the XMC will be a wireless client just like your laptop. You will not need to have a PC running to make Pandora work. My Samsung Bluray has this also. My beef isn't with the music selection, but the excitement generated which perpetuates the low resolution music revolution started by the IPod. <gets off soap box> ;D

It appears that the Analog Devices DAC/ACD's have been dropped from the XMC-1, and so it will be using the same CS42518 as the UMC-1. Is this correct?
Also, I'm assuming that the volume control is done in the digital domain, requiring all analog inputs to be converted to digital and back (at high resolution). Is this correct?

My hope is that the platform will mature, we will have a convergence with Apple TV, Squeezebox, et cetera to a more unified platform, Bandwidth technologies will improve and then the higher quality signals can be piped. We are watching this evolution and maybe even creating it! Just gotta be patient but changes are occurring so fast. If you take 10 year cycles and look back at each decade it is amazing how fast the technology evolves. The internet is a game changer and we are in a transformational journey similar to the industrial revolution where many services are migrating to the internet like itunes. We are just getting started and keep your seatbelts fastened! I am with you though and do not use Ipod or MP3 where I would pay for it but if they give it to me then I will play the patience game! ;D

That reminds me of something spoken by one of the Amiga designers (the A3000 I think): Never move a jumper unless you are sure you know what it does, even if it is labeled "sex and free beer".

"Did I understand correctly that the XMC-1 will have one "true pure analog" input (not counting the 7.1 analog inputs)? ...and, is that one connection XLR only?"
Has anyone got an answer to this yet?

It's like Christmas is here early this year.
(I too am a little bummed about only 5 HDMI, but I'll adjust)

5 HDMI inputs are fine for me, but I'll be disappointed if the hot-rodded portion was ditched in favor of internet streaming support that I'll never use. Hopefully both are part of the final design.
The most unfortunate thing for me is that my conviction in the XMC is wavering vs. the UMC. I'd rather the XMC and it's balanced outputs, but as I'm running only a single video system, it's getting harder to justify the XMC if it doesn't have the upgraded internals vs. the UMC.

Five is now getting to be the norm.

I only need 2 HDMI in: Satellite, Blu-Ray and one out TV.
What all are ya'll hooking up? I could see a game station for three or apple TV. Are you hooking up duplicate products?
Why do you need the RS232 if they have USB?
The Internet streaming is a bigger deal than you might think and it is the future. Our whole company is scrambling and investing in internet based services and service providers. It is amazing what is being cooked up out there.
Please do not take my commentary as critical as I am just trying to follow the logic and learn a little too! I see Emotiva dropping S-video and RS232 as dying requirements and they could drop the composite as far as I can tell.
Please make it educational as I am still learning all this as well.

Why do you need the RS232 if they have USB? Rs-232 is for having pre/pro controllable by a computer/home automation system. I don't know if the usb port can be used for this? but if so that would defintly be just as good.

For me I just like the fact that each sub could have its own connection. Just a macho thing to say my pre-amp has 3 sub outs and I use all of them ;D
