Well I'm don't think I'm way above the norm as far as connected devices but here's my list: DirecTv receiver HD-DVD Player WD Live Media Player Don't have any video game consoles connected in my main room but have the potential to hook up my Wii (via hdmi if using an all digital XMC-1). Now if I add a Blu-Ray player (mildly interested in the newly announced Oppo BDP-93) I would have no inputs left. Keep in mind I do own a digital camcorder with HDMI out as well. So more HDMI inputs would be appreciated by many. I say a minimum of six or seven in the rear and one in the front would be good. Except that the Wii doesn't do HDMI. It's NEVER done HDMI. It will do component, but that's it... It doesn't to digital audio either. Now, one possible workaround would be to cable it to your TV, and run audio-out to your XMC-1... If your TV had digital audio out that is... So, four rear, one front would fit you. I'm not arguing against MORE HDMI inputs, but beyond a point it's getting sorta crazy. Thus why I posted my vision of a device that would remove analog devices from the unit outright going forward. You need analog, you get the add-on unit. Emotiva just has to keep compatibility with it going backwards until the unit's sales no longer justify its existence.

Just buy a Wii -> HDMI adapter and that issue is solved. Have you actually used one of these? I'd be wary of the quality of the conversion. I believe I read reports about it being a crap shoot which ones really work well. The price ranges from 60 to 150 bucks. Also, with all the problems the UMC is having with HDMI connections, imagine how many would be sent back if people couldn't connect their cable boxes via component/optical. Could happen with the XMC, too.

Here is my current list of HDMI Devices.
Dish 722 (use component right now, but would like to use HDMI) Blu Ray HD DVD (and yes I still use it) Oppo Up converter (at some point may get an Oppo BR to do both SD and BR) Xbox 360 Camcorder (have it connected via Component currently)
*Possible Upgrades PS3 Popcorn Hour HT PC
So I'm already at 5, with 8 a very good possibility, and who knows what will be coming out in the next couple of years that I'll want. ;D

Those prices seem high, but perhaps they will lower and quality should be right or the adapter should be returned.

Actually the cheapest I've seen is $40 and the quality is pretty abysmal. But $40 per adapter X 4 devices adds up in a hurry, and is enough of a hassle to simply look at another brand.

I feel certain that the All Digital version of the XMC will have 8 HDMI inputs. The prototype shown at Emofest had them. The podcast mentioning the Digital/Legacy Version of the XMC said that it will have 5 HDMI inputs, but it will also have legacy inputs just like the UMC-1 has. Once they remove the legacy video connectors there will be plenty of room to boost the HDMI connections -- it only makes sense. That should provide all the HDMI that 99+ % of users will ever need. ;D I'm pretty sure most people would be very hard pressed to come up with 5 HDMI devices, let alone 8+. Camcorder Digital Camera. Cable TV(DVR) Satellite TV(DVR) PS3 XBox 360 Blu-Ray Player DVD-Player (See Blu-Ray player) HTPC AppleTV Boxee Google TV My usage: Blu-ray player (Blu-Ray, DVD, CD, Netflix, DLNA, Pandora, Hulu+, BDLive) Wii (No HDMI, Always connected via AB Switch PS2 & XBox on physical A/B switch (No HDMI, My wife's addicted to old PS2 games) Digital Camera (No HDMI, only occasionally) PC (Only occasionally for games.) OTA TV Audio (Optical out from TV) So, I have 2 devices max that use HDMI, and 4 that do not. Funny that you mention this...Lonnie had said something similiar way back, and I pointed out that I have the following: HT Room Eight (8) HDMI devices Dish 722k HDMI Bell 9242 HDMI Motorola DCT3416 HDMI Oppo 83 HDMI WD Live TV Plus HDMI HTPC HDMI Boxee HDMI Sony HD CamCorder HDMI FamilyRoom six (6) HDMI devices Dish 722k HDMI Bell 9242 HDMI Motorola DCT3416 HDMI Oppo 80 HDMI WD Live TV Plus HDMI Panny BD85

^ Yeah, but three DVRs isn't a typical setup And what has typical have to do with it? The reality is that I have two different sat providers and a cable provider (for rain/snow cause sat outages). Don't get the same channels of them either. There are differences on each and YES I pay subscriptions on all of them. ;D Another point is, that without HDMI there is not enough digital connections for the audio connectivity.

Xbox 360, PS3, Blu Ray player, HDVD player, Media player, SACD, Verizon Fios are just a few.

If the XMC-1 does not have a HDMI pass thru, I am going to bypass the XMC-1 with cable output and go straight to the TV. Then connect optical from the TV to the XMC-1. As I have stated several times now, I don't see why I need to activate 9 amplifier channels in order to see the weather report before I leave for work. Likewise, my wife does not need to watch the cooking & HGTV channels in 7.2 surround. It frees up another HMDI input and is energy saving.

Sorry, didn't see the other adapters before. I spoke on this forum earlier about a wii specific adapter that can be found at www.neoya.com/shop/wii2hdmi/

^ Yeah, but three DVRs isn't a typical setup I think a PC and Boxee on the same TV is even less typical. I just dropped from 4 HDMI devices to 2 in my HT. My HDMI'll fit into any setup, most likely. I have to say, though....all the people mentioning cameras....isn't that something you just want a front HDMI port for, and they don't all have to plug in at the same time? Personally, I pull the cards and put them into the computer (probably copying for LT storage, too) rather than hook up camera devices directly.

A little tough to pull the hard drive out of my Sony, but if you'll cover the repair costs I'll pull the hard drive and put it into the computer... I'd love to have you here to pull the HDMI cables out and change them around when I want to switch input devices... ;D Better yet I want to see you get them back into the right spot without eventually causing the HDMI connector to fail.
