If in doubt about which sub to go with, remember this. Getting the bigger, more powerful, Ultra 12 will never hurt you. Getting a smaller, less powerful sub, may not fill your needs for low bass and SPL. If it can't do the job, you've wasted your money, and will have to spend more to upgrade. When in doubt, get the larger sub that can handle the output requirements more easily. It will sound better and will not be pushed as hard to get you the punch you're looking for. Easier loads mean less demands on the amps. Less demands means less distortion at higher volumes. Less distortion allows you to play it louder and cleaner. I know it's more money than the Ultra 10, but at the price Emo is selling these subs, the extra cost is really worth it in your case. I think it's a no-brainer.

It'd be nice if manufacturers would provide ground plane measurements of their sealed subs to see how they perform without room gain.... as an rough idea of what type of performance to expect in room (although this can vary widely). The only one I can think of off the top of my head that has done so is Seaton with his Submersive. All of eD's graphs show the sub response as ground plane measurements.

Also, there are no measurements on the product pages.

From what I've learned since I began researching subs, I agree. Which is why I want 2 as well, besides the other advantages of that. And the reason I'm so centered on the Ultras is that Emo offers a lot of bang-for-the-buck with every product I've heard myself, read reviews on, talked with others about their experiences with. I can't imagine them not doing the same with these subs. Also, I like that they're not pulling the rug from beneath their warranty in regards to the amps in the Ultras. Everyone else seems to have a lot of faith in their drivers, not so much in the amps they use. I like the idea of having the same 5 years on both. But I understand that many folks will get a sub and push the amp past it's limits, thus the short warranties offered by most manufacturers. Having said that, I just pulled the trigger on an Ultra-10. Bang for the buck is paramount right now and, judging from roadrunner's Emofest impressions and this comment from mookieb about the Ultra-12: and from LCSeminole about his Ultra-12: Both of those guys have larger and more open rooms than mine, so I think the Ultra-10 will suit my needs and, a few months from now, two of them will give me more than I need. Now, the waiting...

Why buy one when you can get two for twice the price?!!! ;D Let us know how you like em'.

If I decide the 10 isn't enough after I get the second one, there is always the dining room (zone 2) and then I'll be building a 2 channel system in my workout room as well. So it's a win-win.
After next year, the budget will grow dramatically. I see a lot of speakers in my future.
Has anyone put speakers in their fishing boat yet? ;D

Therefore, the Restroom was an old-fashion wooden outhouse -- even had a Sears Catalog in lieu of toilet paper. Any way, he had speakers in the outhouse to pipe music in... a true music lover! ;D ;D ;D

Has anyone put speakers in their fishing boat yet? ;D Yes, they are from Polyplanar, as is the AM/FM/CD player. All are waterproof which is a good thing in a saltwater environment. Especially since mine are all outside. You can see the head unit to the left of the cabin door moldings in front of the portside helmseat. There are 2 speakers on each side of the helm chairs, and 2 speakers in the cockpit by the engine boxes. When I complete my gas to diesel conversion, I will add a subwoofer and amplifiers, and maybe larger, more efficient speakers.

Lol! Nice rig. I was thinking something more along these lines though: ;D I need to find a new line of work. Maybe this novel I'm writing will pan out and my stack of amps will be taller than me.

i apologize for not reading the through the 19 pages, but are there any graphs representing these subs actual output?
i have a shiva-x in a 6.5 cu ft box and am looking for something "smaller" for better placement. however, specs appear to be 'too much' for this sub.
any reviews out there that show graphs/frequency sweep?

Are they black oak or am I seeing some weird reflection? I was thinking these would be the same finish as the rest of the speaker line.. Nope. Veneer. People asked for it. We listened. I'm sorry, that's just ugly. Why couldn't the finish and nice rounded edges match the beautiful enclosures on other Emotiva speakers? I feel the same.. Who where you listened to ? But if it sounds good, I think I can live with it ..

when are the 220v versions of the ultra subs coming out .... approximate time frame of release ? Lonnie and Big Dan may be the only ones who can answer that question. The only reference I am aware of said that they would be slip-streaming the Univeral voltage version into production this summer -- whatever that means. ;D

OK...help a HT brother out here. Just bought myself a birthday present....an Ultra 12. Couldn't resist the price and free shipping. Don't know when it's supposed to get here, but in anticipation, got some questions.
First and foremost, it will be teamed with an Epik Phoenix (18" driver, downwoard firing ports, big cabinet, big output, low output). Now, since I've been using either a HSU VTF3, or an MFW 15 for (what I consider) mid-bass, what do you recommend? Placement on the alternate side from the Epik Phoenix? Same side? Ultra in front and Phoenix in back?
I'm running 7.1 Onix Rockets all the way around. HT room is about 18'x14' with an open back. Using a Pioneer SC 27 AVR as control central.
Fire away!

I just placed an order for the Ultra Sub 10 to replace my 8" yammy downfiring sub. I know it will be a nice upgrade over my old yammy. i also ordered an X-Series shielded power cable for the sub too. it will be connected to my 5507 with XLR an interconnect purchased from monoprice. i couldn't beat the price and the 10 is more than enough sub for me. I'm not a bass head and the yammy did a pretty good job for my in my room. i'm gonna move the yammy to the basement office where i have set up a small HT 5.1 using the new Onkyo 308 receiver, TSi100's L&R, CS10 center and a couple of odd surrounds; the yammy will do wonders in this area. i'll post again once i get the ultra 10 which should be by this coming Friday.

solarrdadd , i think your going to be more than happy with the ultra 10.It's taken my 2.1 listening to a new level.I'm in a small room and the 10 is oh so tight..You could turn into a bass head after you get that baby hooked up
