Sorry for all the questions....
Is the XPA-5 driving all 5 channels or are you using the XPA-3 for the Center and Mains?

LOL... no worries... things happen and sometimes you just need to go over things. So just to clarify... the 5 speakers now have sound. Only the sub to go?

The bottom line is you figured it out and now have your surrounds playing properly. As far as the sub goes check and recheck your cable connections, UMC-1 settings/levels and sub volume levels as well. Good luck . Bill

Does the Sub have auto-sensing or do you need to turn it on and off?

Sub connected via RCA or Balanced? Sub amp turned on? sub is connected through RCA the speakers that i am using have 1 12" sub built into each Left and Right fronts with a powered 300 watt amp in each speaker. i can hear the sub when the speakers are playing but can't on the speaker calibration not sure if this will make a difference why i can not hear anything from the speaker calibration for the sub...

Hmm... I'm not familiar with the Def Tech speakers that you have.
Do you have a separate sub from the main speakers? Do the Def Techs have LFE inputs or do they get driven from the speaker cable connections?

I assume you're not using the "optional" LFE input - so that may be why no sub tones on calibration. But I'm not sure how the UMC-1 does tones for the sub. I would think only using the LFE out.

I tend to agree with your assessment. It does not sound like the OP has anything connected to the "Sub Out" connector on the UMC-1. This would explain why he hears nothing in the calibration page for the sub woofer. If I correctly understood his post, he is only using the built-in subs on his Left and Right Main speakers. If this is so, you would not expect to hear a calibration tone for the sub (via the UMC-1 menus). ;D

You are right and I believe the only way to test the subs is to connect them to the LFE channel of the UMC-1.I think you could check them with out the LFE as in just running subs with the speaker connection and turning the sub volume on the back and using a Radio Shack Analog SPL meter. If I correctly understood his post, he is only using the built-in subs on his Left and Right Main speakers. If this is so, you would not expect to hear a calibration tone for the sub (via the UMC-1 menus). ;D
