So I recently bought a new integrated amp (the Creek 5050 that I was wondering about in an earlier post) that has a phono section.
Now I'm considering getting a turntable.
My budget is <$400 so I'm looking at the very popular Rega P1, Pro-ject debut-III, and the Music Hall MMF2.2. I've read nothing but good about the first 2, but I'm curious about the Music Hall. Its been hard to find review on it, but I have learned that it is made in the same factory as the Debut and has a lot of the same components. So I'm curious if the Music Hall is worth the extra price ($449).
The shop that I bought the Creek from is a Music Hall dealer and they said they could get a good price on the MMF-2.2. If it as good or better than the other two, then I will consider going for it.
does anyone have any knowledge of how the Music Hall would compare to the Rega or Pro-ject??

All of those are great turntables. Just pick the one that your budget allows. And you can get higher end models for around your budget range at Audiogon; like Rega P3, Pro-Ject Perspective, VPI Aries Scout... * Me, I'm a VPI type of guy.

These 3 are constantly compared so you should be able to find tons of info on all of them. I have not heard the the Debut III, but it does get good reviews. I have heard the other two. To me the Rega is more forward and is a bit grainy. The Music Hall is more relaxed and smoother. This is with the stock carts.

also check out the brand new Pro-ject RPM 1.3. Looks like a solid table with better motor isolation than the others. Its $100 more though at $499 retail, but could be worth it (although i've never heard it). www.youtube.com/watch#!v=ypZc9NNYzTQ&feature=related

I just bought a Pro-ject Debut III, first "real" table I've had and first one of any kind in 15 yrs so can't compare. I'm very happy with it. I found lots of info on all three tables you mentioned. Picked the debut iii because of the great reviews and found one for good price. The MMF looked like a good table too if you get a deal on it.

I actually just got the Pro-ject RPM 1.3, I can't give a true review on it because it is my first table but can say I have really enjoyed it thus far.

Don't worry about picking the wrong one... these are all good tables. I'd recommend you go with the Music Hall, since they're carried by your local shop.

Wow! thanks for all the great replies!
I am currently leaning more toward the Music Hall, because I would really like to support my local shop especially since the consensus is that it is on-par with the other two tables.
Bigred, thanks for suggesting the RPM1.3, that looks like a sweet table! High WAF is always a plus! I'll have to look around online and see if any places are offering them for below the $499 price.
I'm also torn right now between a new TT or new speakers (specifically the Aperions currently in the emporium). I'm not very happy with my current Kef iQ-1's.

Heyhey,
Just quickly,
The DebutIII is actually a higher rated table than the RPM 1.3, the 1.3 being the bottom of Pro-Ject's range, and priced accordingly worldwide except in the states (funny eh?)
Of the lot, the Music Hall would be the one to go for. Good luck!

I really like the external motor, though. I have the RM 5.1 SE and that has me a little jealous.

very very interesting dotvibe, thanks for letting us know!
that is very strange that the PRM1.3 is at a higher pricepoint in their lineup in the states than it is overseas.....
well I have to say all your input has been awesome and has put me at ease. I had wanted initially to get the music hall, but some of the things I had found about it online made me think twice. If I do decide to pick up a TT rather than speakers I'll go for the music hall.
thanks guys!

This appears to be a recent introduction to the US. Looking at the cartridge, arm, and platter, it does appear to be of slightly lower quality than the Debut line. But I'm sure we're talking about very minor differences in sound quality, and it does look really cool.

Ben, I dont know about the arm but the Debut has a Ortofon OM5E, the US 1.3 has a Sumiko Pearl mounted. Whats the differences that you found. PS not trying to defend just curious about the discussion.
