Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I am pretty amazed at the number of status updates we've had since the UMC-1 launched (at least 10 in the last 2 months!). Yes, there were many missed dates leading up to the launch, but it looks like they learned their lesson and are communicating a lot - even if their status update is simply to say (paraphrasing here...) "we're still testing we'll let you know more soon".
I have never seen this type/frequency of communication on status of a new product from any company...audio/video or otherwise. So, I am thrilled. Would I rather have resolution of all UMC-1 issues? Sure. But in absence of that - I like the frequent, high quality communication.
Mark (PS - I hope nobody considers that "fanboy flames"...not intending for it to be read like that. I'm just stating my personal opinion. Take it or leave it.)

I'm glad I have other hobbies, the wait for me is no issue. The only issue for me is I'd like to see people that actually want the UMC to get one.

Spring is almost here and I have better things to do outside. By fall I will have my UMC-1, Brian's sub kit with DIY enclosure finished, Panny or Oppo BR player and Panny 65" plasma if I find picture and black level are up to par otherwise I will just wait till next year.
The thing is I will have by that time HDMI 1.4 available if needed and everything will be on track by the end of the year.
All this bickering and insults toward the Emotiva staff is uncalled for.
They are doing there best in a complicated device that I would like to see anyone else to show me they could do a better job at hand.
I work with GUI's and PLC's for my job and know how difficult some of these type of problems are to solve but all I hear lately from people that are not engineers telling them how bad a job they are doing.
Wake up and think what you are saying!
Unless you do you will see less and less posts from management because your negative posts does not provide the reenforcement to respond.
I do not post a lot and have a way with words like some others here but you get the drift.
I give Big Dan and Lonnie the biggest balls to stick with it and provide the best answers to some difficult questions you are asking.

I thought spring didn't start in Oshkosh until June? (I was raised in northern Indiana, just ~100 miles east of the southern tip of Lake Michigan. "Spring" there came in late May-ish.)
Otherwise, I fully second your thoughts...

Fixes are good. New features are even better. For what it is worth, I like the mantra: Quality, Schedule, Features. Fix what I have, do your best to meet any timeline commitments within the goal of Quality, and *then* add Features. My 2 cents. James

There was an update from Big Dan in the manual update thread (the one that got locked due to some interpersonal issues coming out), and he said:
That was 3/23 at 5:35 PM.

I mean, you did just go golfing with them right? And what difficult questions are you talking about? "My UMC doesn't work" or "EmoQ is useless" or "zone 2 is pumping music out of zone 1", should i go on? How about this question..."Why did you release a half tested lemon to the masses"? 30% returned, 60% unhappy, 10% fanboys. That's the breakdown of the market for the UMC so far.

Butcher...see reply 27. Perhaps you overlooked that post directly referring you to what you just asked for (an update).
I hope that helps...
If not, just call Emotiva and ask them directly if you want to hear it directly.

Butcher
You said you had one and then returned it.
All your post are pretty negative and I am wondering why you are still here after returning your unit?
I have a Oulaw 950 that also had problems but the company stuck with it and got me the parts to correct the problem months later. The unit has been working great but now I am ready for the next upgrade and the UMC-1 will be it.
By the end of the year I feel most of the software problems will be corrected and I will end up with a great unit that I may or may not upgrade to HDMI 1.4 if needed.
My first post was intended for a person like yourself that either has no hope or is determined to do anything possible to give the company a fair shake in resolving the problems in a reasonable timeframe.
I try to be reasonable and do not go out on a negative campaign because a product did not work out for me. And yes from all your 14 posts this is what you are doing even if you do not see it.

How about this question..."Why did you release a half tested lemon to the masses"? 30% returned, 60% unhappy, 10% fanboys. That's the breakdown of the market for the UMC so far. Those "marketing stats" are way wrong. Think about it.. If 30% returned their processors, Emotiva would have enough to fill some of the back orders. If 60% were unhappy, Emotiva wouldn't have trouble keeping any in stock. The term "fanboys" is ridiculous as it can be applied to anyone that likes anything! And it's insulting to the female members. Half tested lemon? Do you drive a Toyota? Enough said! Just doesn't make sense. If you're so unhappy with the UMC, how about just buying a receiver? Oh that's right, they have their share of problems too! Good luck getting answers from their president and chief design engineer though. As has been stated by Dan, they're testing the firmware. I'd much rather they take time to test it thoroughly so we have fewer problems and consequently fewer people would make analogies with citrus fruit. Yes, the same people that are demanding the firmware release ASAP. As they say... To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Moodyman Think of it as a Panny Plasma with no fix for the Black level and a statement saying the software is being tested to return your set to the black level when the set was purchased. This may take a few months to develop but you will recieve the software within this years timeframe. That is a lot better than the statement given by Panny that there is no problem and this is normal for the set. I know it is korny but you get the jest of what I am saying. Let's just give them some time and see what the new update does. A few more weeks should not be a life or death situation. I'm assuming your replying to my post which I have subsequently deleted. In case anybody was wondering..I also disagreed with EDVB's asessment of the UMC "situation" he posted a few days ago..

I assume the "zone 2 music was coming out of zone 1" was in reference to my review. The crosstalk was determined to be coming from the UPA-7 amp and NOT the UMC-1.
