Great, now the game plan changes. I just ordered an onkyo 886 yesterday and will be here tomorrow. Oh well, if the UMC is finally ready for prime time I will have a 876 receiver and a 886 pre pro for sale! Can't you just return the 886 without even opening it?

Just refuse delivery and you won't even have to worry about return shipping.

And it should be too and 3 times the price retailwise. I have both the UMC-1 and the 886. The XMC-1 whenever it comes out will more likely be in the same ballpark range as the 886 technically speaking.

On a different note I really HOPE they release the new firmware update TOMMAROW and not Friday. Be nice to have them open for a day to respond to and get feedback from the people who install it.............with my luck it won't come out till next week.

Just refuse delivery and you won't even have to worry about return shipping. 15 % restocking fee! Not everyone has a return policy like Emotiva!

I'm curious to why you bought the 886 owning the 876 and considering the UMC-1? To me the 876 is a 886 without the balanced outputs/input. I feel the 886 is the better HT prepro than the UMC-1 but you can always buy one and do a comparison . It is amazing that the 886 is out of production and the prices seem to be increasing . Bill

Bill THe 886 is basically an advanced version of the 906. Including a real toroidal power supply, true independant block(stage)construction, XLR outputs, and advanced xover and EQ function along with a few other goodies. The 876 uses an ie transformer, and lacks the same block construction as the 906/886.

Not only are you guys reading my mind, but also answering my questions? ;D The reason I purchased the 886 is, operation is very similar to my 876 along with some advanced features. The reason I consider the UMC is, #1- Live EQ adjustment. The 2nd reason is I think it looks fantastic. As far as needing either, I don't. I am just one of those guys who likes to change.

Keep the 886 for a while. When the XMC is out you can then see if you want to make the switch. Enjoy it for a while and come back here in about 6-12 months.

The 876 uses an ie transformer, and lacks the same block construction as the 906/886. The Toroidal transformer as well as the independant block construction are related to the amp sections of the 906. The 876 as shown on the Onkyo site (linked below) also has the independant block construction as does the 906. If you are comparing the preamp sections of the 876, 906 and the 886 what significant differences are there? If you were using all three as prepros would there be any obvious audible differences? When you mention advanced X-over and EQ functions are you referring to Audyssey Pro? If you are then from what I recall only the 885 and 886 are Pro capable. So when doing a direct comparison (no Pro used) with all three having Audyssey MultEQ XT then they would be equal inregard to X-overs and EQ functions IMO. Why not start an Onkyo thread?

"Why not start an Onkyo thread?"
I'm with you Moe. This is an Emotiva forum not an over-priced, over-heating and ugly looking Onkyo pre-pro forum.

Why not start an Onkyo thread? If you do not like the Onkyo chit chat ignore it . If I see discussion in a specific thread that does not interest me I don't bother reading it. Just because the discussion of Onkyo products does not interest you does not mean others are not interested. Pretty simple if you ask me. Another case of someone trying to dictate what is discussed here . Bill

Why does the UMC always seem to end up getting compared to an Onkyo?

Because there are some Onkyo executives in here trying to promote Onkyo.
