I tried to upgrade my UMC-1 and the first file I tried to load does not work. I have attached a screen shot of the first screen. The blue Hex and Bin runs but the blue bar inside the load never starts. Please Help.

Your computer didn't successfully connect to the UMC-1. Is there anything running in the background on your computer, or are there any other USB devices attached? Have you tried the USB driver update at Emonatics?

I have windows xp which drivers should I try? Go here, download the self-extracting USBXpress driver update. Apply that update, and try connecting again.

Your computer didn't successfully connect to the UMC-1... Actually, it is "connected", but you are getting USB timeouts (I went through this about half a dozen times...). What is your computer setup?

Reset 0 received no response indicates that most likely the computer never made a successful connection to the UMC-1. Can you tell me what it was in the screen shot that made you think it did connect?

The icon in the lower right (Computer with a line to a "chip"). That "image" says I can see and talk to the device.
Start the utility, and disconnect the USB cable, you'll see a different image...
I received the 'Send "reset 0" command no resonse' (sic) after the upgrade utility failed three times, every time about a half dozen times.
The only "fix" I found was a computer with a different USB controller...

Can you tell me what it was in the screen shot that made you think it did connect? I can't speak for agehring, but my experience last time around, I was able to get the first firmware to upload, but not the second. The second kept giving me the dreaded "received no resonse" (that typo really sets off the grammar Nazi in me! ;D ). So I'd say the fact that it was able to flash the first firmware load in my case indicated that there was a good connection. After multiple retries (yes, the very definition of insanity), I was able to get it to go. Since then I upgraded the USBExpress driver, and have since reloaded the V5 firmware a couple times without incident. I want to upload V6, but am a bit nervous seeing the responses here. Obviously, I hope the majority have gone swimmingly, and they are simply too busy enjoying the music/movie to come post here... Still, I may wait a few days, as I'm used to the v5 quirks!

it's possible that this individual may need to try a different computer. That is the only thing that worked for me. Also, I had to reset (hard power off (switch in back)) between steps 2 and 3, as the UMC wasn't responding to the utility after step 2

Boot your PC into Safe Mode (press F8 as soon as it starts to boot. The USB cable will still work in safe mode, and you have a lot less things going on within the CPU. I've done that with my ageing laptop both updates now and it works great.

satman24122, I have heard from one other person in a similar situation as yourself. I think it's possible some people have UMC-1's with defective USB hardware. I'm not saying this is certain, but after multiple computers and OS''s and cables, etc...

I tried reinstalling the upgrade software. This did not help either. But i did notice that it does not have the .exe at the end of emotiva_AVR_upgrade. not sure if this would make a difference though

I've wasted hours on this update so far, and the most progress I've made is 37% on the 1st file. That time must have been a freak accident, because usually I've been lucky to get up to 10%. I've tried a laptop with Windows 7, a netbook with XP, normal boot and safe mode, two different cables, new USB driver, and reinstalling the loader. I had to leave and come back, and now I'm getting the "no resonse [sic]" error exclusively. What a frustrating, disappointing evening after waiting for weeks for this update. Oh, and also my UMC is now non-functional as well, so my whole system is down. It won't get past "loading" on startup, then it keeps partially shutting down and restarting.

ksuvet, you might try unplugging absolutely everything and turning off the rear power switch for the UMC-1. Plug in the power cord, turn on the rear switch. Leave it in standby. With your computer off, plug in the USB cable to it and the UMC-1. Boot up. Start the Emotive Upgrade program, and attempt to apply the DSP Firmware update.
