hey Bill. Just noticed something with the MD5 checklist. On your page you have it listed as UMC-1_v6_02_02_20100413.upg but the file I downloaded from EMO says UMC-1_v6_02_04_20100413.upg Notice the difference? Anyway I tried the MD5 with everything and it tells me all the codes do not match. I am getting very FRUSTRATED---not at you at this whole process. I see the file name discrepancy, and I don't know how it happened. I copy/pasted those names. I am very perplexed by this. I just reran the checksum and re-downloaded the files, and re-ran the checksum again and I have the same checksum each time. I do not actually have a copy of a file with the name UMC-1_v6_02_02_20100413.upg, all of the files are correctly named with the 02_04 in there. I must have somehow accidentally changed a character. That said, can you please give me the codes that were calculated for the checksum of your files? The fact that they didn't match is very concerning to me.

That said, let me know if you need any help with the update process.

Come on EMOTIVA!!! Any feedback on these issues we are having?? Its been 2 days since the new FW and I would assume you guys are aware of some of these issues we are dealing with. I am doing all that I can without having to ship my unit back and taking a chance it might come back still messed up.
Please give us some feedback from your end as to why some of these issues are happening.........

I spoke with Nick this morning and already got an RMA to send back for service. Emotiva is normally pretty good about reading and replying on the forums this is why I started this post. I would imagine others feel the same way why there has been no response yet from the Emotiva team responding to these issues. They said "it just works". Many of us are finding this is not the case.
More troubleshooting---If anyone is having luck with the recent upgrade, when did you get your unit?? For the ones having issues--When did you receive yours??
I wonder if it has anything to do with production runs--not uncommon at all in electronics

wouldnt posting the serial #'s be the best way to track things down if its a hardware related issue?

Hi guy's, Please, please , please call us if you ave any issues with your upgrade. The units DO work correctly if the SW is loaded completely and correctly.
Vincent believes that some XP based machines may be causing issues like you describe, and we are checking into this. We're not sure, just seems to be a trend in error reporting so we are digging into this.
In the interim, we will update or FREE if you allow us to.
No need to suffer, just ask for help! Thanks, Dan

Dan, in my eye's its obvious that you guys are really trying.
The other thing I've noticed is that this Bill Bauman fellow on the boards here really seems to know his stuff. make him volunteer to help if he can! Send him a hat or a t-shirt or XPA-1 or something. I think he's help a few guys to "Step back from the Ledge"...
UMC is in transit for me. I look forward to it. I look forward to sucessfully updating the FW too.
Chin up.

Dan,
My advice would be to package your FW updates in a linux LiveCD.ISO with an automatic flash loader and update routine. That way, everyone could just download the ISO image, burn it to a CD and boot off the disc to load the firmware. It would dramatically reduce the error rates in upgrades and make the process much more pleasant for everyone.

Dan
Thanks for the statement although I would have expected to get that kind of answer to the emails I've sent. I'll update my unit a 4th time from another machine tomorrow. If that doesn't work you surely will get a call.
Best, Markus
P.S. My machine runs Windows 7 Home Premium not XP.

Or, that using XP, you may have installation problems, such as loader hanging, lock-ups, etc...

How are we supposed to know? I'm getting audio drops from my dish receiver, didn't prior to v6. I guess I should try the install again.

I personally would not have used the word myriad as there is only a hand full of people with issues (I checked yesterday and it is around 1% of the total number of UMCs out there). Are you sure? The units DO work correctly if the SW is loaded completely and correctly. Are you sure? ( I wish I could be confident enough in this to confirm my pre-order, and would love it if the problems in fact were as isolated as you both seem to think - but the flurry here on this board seems to indicate otherwise)

Hi guy's, Please, please , please call us if you ave any issues with your upgrade. The units DO work correctly if the SW is loaded completely and correctly. So how can we know if we did it "completely and correctly"? What is the criteria for determining this? When I had an issue with the last firmware, I was told to re-do it. It went 100% correct for me but I was instructed to do it again because it didn't "take". I did it again and nothing changed so did I do it right? I've never, never loaded a BIOS into a motherboard, have it finish and not have it work. I've never had a BIOS install fail either. It writes a block, verifies the block, write, verify until it's finished. Until you give a REPEATABLE way to determine that what I have in my system is 100% accurate and exactly what should be there, you can't make claims like that because I can't know it worked even if it loaded and finished. Checking for the firmware version is not enough. First the install application needs to be fixed. At least fix the spelling errors. Small visible errors make me wonder what's wrong that I can't see... Next you need to add a verification step to the install that clearly shows a checksum for the installed firmware. That checksum needs to match a value that is provided for each firmware update. Think of it as an MD5 for the files you upload. BTW, you really should have the MD5 values on your site so people can make sure what they download is 100% correct. (Sorry, having someone else MD5 it for you and post it on another site is doing it wrong.) Before the release of the next firmware (and I hope it's soon) you need to find people to test it who are not part of Emotiva and make sure that your listed procedure is accurate. Also give these people the ability to completely revert to the previous firmware in case an issue occurs. The current method is broken and continuing down that path with the mantra "It just works" is really starting to piss of some of your biggest supporters.

Good points.
I hope that (for everyone's sake) Emotiva listens to your advice. Would be REALLY sad if the bugs are actually fixed, but the users cannot enjoy the fixes dues to botched installs...

Are you aware of Emotivareturn policy? Especially if you are not satisfied. You can return it or send it in for repairs. I see you are growing supporters already.
