To the OP, Are you saying that only the ones happy with the UMC should post here and the ones that arent happy shouldnt? No not at all. I think the issues related posts are just as informative as the positive posts. However, it can seem as if the UMC is universally a clunker if only negative posts show up. I totally understand the behavior of not posting when there's smoothe sailing. I'm guilty of it myself. I typically follow forums quite closely on items I'm interested in purchasing. Weigh the pros and cons of users input (providing there are positive comments out there) and make a purchase. Then once things are up and running I sit back and enjoy my stuff, neglecting the community I relied on to help make my purchase decision. It just seems as if there are an overwhelming number of negative posts concerning the UMC's operation. This is not to say no positive ones are out there and I appreciate them. I just want to reiterate that those of you having issues need to call Emotiva. Don't rely on the forum to solve the problem. Especially if you are just sitting back and doing nothing because you've seen other related posts and figure it's being taken care of. The only way Emotiva can get a clear idea of how their product is performing is if you call. The forum is not necessarily a part of their support, if at all. That way I believe we all can benefit and get the product we all were expecting. Sorry, my $2. Sips

one issue i am having is i'm getting a serious hum with the hdmi out hooked up to the vizio flat panel. Just curious....is this something you have had all along?....or something you are noticing since applying the v6 FW? I'm noticing a low-level groundloop-like hum in my sub while using my DVR/cable box. It is dead quiet until the UMC shows audio signal lock on the OSD....then it starts. I can change channels or FF and it goes quiet unitl audio lock is regained. Never noticed this before. edit: sorry, probably should have taken this elsewhere R

My customers, at least, don't really have the luxury of returning our IT department! You've upset me so much I'm returning you. That's right, all of you, your entire department. Out! Out! Go! Working in "Managed Services", that could actually happen and be very unpleasant!

I know I post often how much I like the UMC,and still do.I know two others, one that post infrequently and one that hardly ever comes to this forum. It's generally agreed that we like the UMC sound and the few minor quirks could never break the deal, considering the deal. It's also generally agreed that most post don't apply to us and there is so much negativity and rudeness(from a select few) the site is a bit of a downer.

I try not to let the negativity get me down and place no judgement on those w/ positive UMC posts. It's posts like those that I'm looking forward to and what has kept me looking at Emo gear for some time now. You'll notice that there are very few threads being started any more after the Beta version has been released. Hmm. Those coming up now are dealing with issues not mentioned prior regarding video related items. Can't make everyone happy, but it's looking more and more like it's going to make me happy since I am most interesterd in the audio end any way. I am really curious what posts will ensue after the Beta release tomorrow announced by Lonnie.

I can't speak for everyone but in my case, rather than bug overburdened tech support already I post issues on the forum just to see if its something with just my UMC or everyones. Basically posting to get as much info as possible before calling emotiva.

There is also the spreadsheet that they have showing the list of bugs. The official tracker form and report solution. Probably a better idea to post though or have a few hours because it's one big list!!!
Like someone said though, if you want to get a pre/pro of this quality (software notwithstanding), then you better be patient. I'll stll get in line for one knowing that they are working hard - it's not easy.
They probably needed another 1/2 year doing QA on the software but it's a good lesson learned. Software is not easy..it's not like putting together components for a power amp or building speakers.
Go Emotiva go! I'll be looking to order the pre/pro after the preorders are fulfilled.

Go Emotiva go! I'll be looking to order the pre/pro after the preorders are fulfilled. I want to order too. My needs are really basic. I only use the bluray player as a video source - no TV watching goes on in my theater. I have an ancient cassette deck (obviously analog) and three Sonos zoneplayers (digital coax) that will be connected to the UMC-1. Some of the problems (at least as I understand them) that should be fixed first: - Pass through mode is affecting video even though it shouldn't.
- Subwoofer EQ is apparently applied only to the LFE, not to LFE + redirected bass.
- Un-commanded volume changes and random noises need to be fixed.
- Reports that multi-channel PCM decoding is not happening. I have a few BD's with PCM soundtracks.
The UMC-1 has great potential and an amazing feature set at the price. Hope they get most of the bugs stomped out before they start taking orders again.

There certainly is a tendency for those who are dissatisfied to complain a bit more. Personally I believe the comments have been pretty even handed and the forum members have been very helpful. Having said that it seems clear there are some major software problems with the unit or Emotiva would not be doing all the software revisions and the CTO (Lonnie) would not have taken one for the team by apologizing for a release that was too early.
I returned mine but I intend to buy another.
