Based on some of the feedback here, I have a suggestion. I would really like to hear feedback on this, as well.
If you have completed the v6 update successfully, but only once, could you perhaps run the update again? If you do, or have already, run it again, could you let us know if the first and/or second run was/were completed without incident? I'm wondering if a 2-pass update process will yield far more consistent results than a single pass. When I say "pass", I mean a completely successful update, at least on the surface. I/we have no way of knowing at this point whether or not an update is truly successful, bit-by-bit.

Bill, I was just talking to a friend about borrowing his new laptop with Windows 7 on it, when I upgraded I used a 6 year old laptop running XP and it went without a hitch. If I can't borrow the Windows 7 laptop I will do a second pass using XP just for the heck of it and report my findings.

I updated to V6 from a Win7 laptop. Worked first try no problems. That's great news. Are you experiencing any bugs with your UMC-1, or is it hunky-dory?

I followed the directions exactly, just like the directions say to do. The instructions do say you need to follow them exactly and install the files in the exact order they say.

What I'm more interested in here is whether or not a second application of a successful firmware install helps resolve post-firmware-update bugs with the unit.

I haven't noticed any problems with my setup. I haven't had a lot of time with play with it since doing the update. I plan to tinker this weekend.

I do still have the "pop" sound in between songs when listening to analog inputs. I get it when listening to my ERC-1 or listening to Pandora through my laptop. Actually, you can hear it every few seconds when nothing is playing also. That is NOT an issue since upgrading firm ware. My UMC came with V5 installed and I have had this issue since recieving my UMC-1. Slitely annoying but not enough so to return my UMC-1. Too many other great features I enjoy to return it!

Completely out of context here, I think your unit may actually be defective. You might consider sending it in for service/replacement. That pop shouldn't be there.

What I'm more interested in here is whether or not a second application of a successful firmware install helps resolve post-firmware-update bugs with the unit. I've installed it 3 times (from a machine running Windows 7 Home Premium). First time the DSP update failed 2 times ("Download Code fail @0x...") while uploading to the UMC-1 via USB until it finally went through. Then I went through the whole update process 2 more times, each time without any problems. The result can be found in the bug tracker form. I'll update my unit tomorrow evening a 4th time from another machine to see if that resolves any of the problems. Best, Markus

I've installed it twice, Mac running XP (bootcamP), both time easily and successfully. The second time did NOT change any of the problems I was having.

markus, ratmice, thank you both for your input so far. I'm wondering if we might want to break out 2 lists. One, a list of issues commonly fixed by re-applying the firmware update, and the second, a list of commonly reported issues that seem to have no resolution.

One list would be very short because re-applying the firmware didn't resolve any issues for me so far

I have installed the update v6 with a laptop running Windows 7 Home and did not have a issue with the software install.
I am seeing some funny things with the sound going from very high to very low to the correct sound I also am seeing the no audio when using a DVR I have to stop and start to get the audio back and some of the setting like PLLX is very loud and stereo is also very loud

So it sounds like any theory about a second, clean update resolving any of the issues is sort of out the window at this point.

I installed v6 again tonight and everything seems to be working ok. Just a side note-I did reinstall v5 after my first v6 install did not seem to work but I now have v6 FW back on.

I plan on trying to install again this weekend. First install went fine, very easy, no issues. But ended up having more audio drops then v5. Dropped in the new Star Trek in my LG BD player (set to bitstream), had no audio through the previews, then had garbled popping sounds before the menu, no sound in the menu, movie played fine with audio (TrueHD). Lost audio when skipping chapters. Man I hope I can get it sorted out.
