my Mrs just spotted a UPA-2 that appeared out of thin air... its been hiding in the rack behind LP's and what not for 5 months (i got it 2nd hand) ... She asked what's that... I said as nonchalantly as possible, its the amp for the USP-1 I got on the weekend (also 2nd hand) ....its only stereo, unlike the UPA-7 that is about to be mated with my new UMC-1 that gets delivered tomorrow evening. She just looked at me like she knew she busted me... I dont care... my UMC-1 is less than 24hrs away!!! Never thought I would be so happy to see men in brown ;D

her comment yesterday. so when are you going to let me see the new emotiva product.

I got away with a few products before she took notice but just like you all I am letting her know well ahead of time that I am in the middle of a HT overhaul that will take about a year or so to complete. The challenge I have is she does not watch TV or the stereo does not understand what is wrong with my current system. It is unbelievable what we have to go through on this stuff.

Why limit it to a one year overhaul? I just say that it is an ongoing process that could take years to complete. ;D Everything sounds pretty much the same to my wife, but on the other hand, all audio equipment looks pretty much the same, too, which makes it all blend in with each other. Especially Emo stuff - just a bunch of blue lights!

It doesn't always work - I did the prep work, explained how big/heavy the F15 sub would be, but when it arrived it was OMG, it's HUGE. (I hear that a lot for some reason) I have it hidden away now so it takes up no more space than the old 10 though. Just as well it wasn't two of them (yet) or one of the dual eD monsters.

Hmmm...suddenly, I am compelled to break into song..."Send me dead flowers to my wedding...and so on and so on...and I won't forget to put roses on your grave..." (Typed in best "Mick Jagger tries southern drawl" typing mode...)
FYI, I prepped the wife for the the USP-1 by telling her, "let's take the Suburban to Emofest because there are a few things I might want to buy while I am there, and we may need the room". Coming home with 1 small box was simple after that...

You guys whose wives give you trouble about your equipment upgrades should do what I did.
Divorce.
Find a partner who is as big an electronics gear head as you. I did and it's great! My wife asks me things like, "Do you think we should upgrade the hard drives in the music server? Aren't they getting close to half full?"
