Agreed - that's why I prefer the attic option.

+ 1 Bill, I always keep the boxes just for those reasons as probably most of us here do. Upgradeitis.
Also this philosphy works pretty well:
Its always easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask permission. ;D
Of course I don't use that in my house. My wife is the one who is home during the day and has to greet the Fed-ex person, so I always let her know when somethings coming.

If my ole' lady even looks like she might say something about my A/V equipment, I simply ask how many pairs of shoes she owns that she's never worn!

Tried that along with bags, book, .... you cant win, you just cant win.
The only argument I have ever won is is that you use the HT too, and I dont use your shoes, bags etc...then its the old well dont you want me to look nice when I'm out with you... to which I counter well dont you want to have fiends over and watch a movie ;-)

I was doing fine with sneaking the gear into the rack. Wife never really noticed. Last weekend she comes in from the garage and says: "why do we have so many damn boxes in the garage?" oh man, this is me. I was cleaning the garage out this weekend and ratherwife said verbatim the same thing! LOL and I too have been relegated to moving boxes in the crawl space above the garage.

Yeah, still have the boxes from my BP10B's those are probably 12yrs old... been through 5 moves and not a scratch on the lacquered panels. So, boxes have to stay, but should get stashed. Garage attic for me...
On a possitive note, the UMC has been working pretty much flawlessly, is a V5 machine still, I have PS3, and the same box as the guys with Direct TV HD PVR, Bell expressVU in Canada. Had 1 or 2 audio drops but none that I've had to try to fix. The machine corrected that before I could try to help. Even got the Harmony one up and running. was holding off until the UMC showed up because until now my AVR wasn't really controlling any V, only A.
All told I think she likes it. Likes the sound and likes that it's becoming a more integrated system. She'd never tell me this but I can pick up that its all Good.
Either that or she's saving up to blind side me with a tirade in the future.

Guys, the boxes. It sounds like the boxes keep giving everyone away. 3 words - recycle recycle recycle or do like I do and stash them in the attic. Fold the boxes up and recycle once you are sure you don't need to send the item back if you can't get it in an attic. 0 That means you have to wait until the five (or 20 if Bryston) year warranty is over. lol

You guys are so lucky...most where I live (Singapore) have never seen an attic (other than in a movie or unless you are a foreigner here) never mind have a garage or even have a car!!! Most barely have anything that would amount to a store room. I have just over 1100 sq ft for my whole house! and no kids and even that is tough on space for 2 people. Many local accommodations have much less space than this down to maybe 600 sq ft.
I even only have one door to enter in and out of...try and sneak something the back door...ha!
But I wouldnt give up my gear no matter what...

My place is 950sqft, but I suppose the attic adds another 150. The garage is 230 - I had to get that built on myself (end house).
