I'm from The Netherlands. I recently bought an Emotiva XPA-5. Now i need a processor with it. My choice is between the following two: - Emotiva UMC-1 - Onkyo PR-SC 886 I'm in favour for the Onkyo, because it has 2 HDMI-outs (Beamer and LCD). Which of the 2 is better, which should i choose ? My speakers are: Quadral Aurum 90, Aurum 70, Aurum Base Center and Aurum Sub10. Hope someone can give constructive advice

You could wait for the XMC-1 for dual-outs, or perhaps use an HDMI splitter/repeater, what is the price difference?

I don't have any sound since December, because my Onkyo TX-NR900E died. The price for the Onkyo PR-SC886 is €800,-.
But the XMC-1 will be out when ?

Okay, an HDMI switch could work. Only yet another device ....
But i still don't know which is better in terms of sound and connections. The Onkyo has a lot of connections. The UMC-1 on the other hand is matching to my XPA-5. Is there anyone who can give me a fair advice about the two ?

I'm planning to get a XPA-5 after the summer, and was hoping to get a XMC-1 at the same time. If I where you, I'd try to wait until XMC-1 is released... Too bad there is no pre-order list for XMC-1 available anymore though

I'm running out of patience. My last receiver died last December, since then no sound here.
Maybe i can buy the Onkyo right now. And then next year, when i switch to a new beamer (3D ?) i can buy the XMC-1. Or just go for the UMC-1 (which should be available 3rd of 4th week of May, according to Sarah).
Or isn't that a good idea, and like you said just wait for the XMC-1 ? If i do that, i'm still gonna be a long time without sound.
Which is better, the Emotiva UMC-1 or the Onkyo PR-SC886 ??

If you desire the XMC, then pick up a used or B-Stock processor to tide you over. That is the plan I took. Otherwise, research the processors and pick up the one that will suit you the best.

I think i´ll do that.
Which one sell quicker when the XMC-1 is out ?
Because when the XMC-1 is out, i don´t believe (when i buy the UMC-1) the UMC-1 will sell that easily.

There will always be a good market for the UMC-1 just like for the LMC-1. The LMC-1s get snatched up almost immediately everytime they go up for sale. ;D

Maybe in The States, but Emotiva is not so wellknown here in The Netherlands.
Onkyo ... Emotiva ... difficult choice

Maybe in The States, but Emotiva is not so wellknown here in The Netherlands. Onkyo ... Emotiva ... difficult choice If sound quality is a key factor to your buying decision, the Emotiva UMC-1 is the better solution for you. There is a lot of discussion taking place in another thread comparing the Onkyo 885 to the UMC-1. I suggest you read that thread and pay close attention to the points being made by the various contributors. That thread may well answer most of you questions. It will, at least, give you a starting point from which to base any further investigations. Just go to "the UMC-1 is a giant killer (885P A/B info, too)" thread and devour all the good info. Good luck.

If you want more features and perhaps a bit better video processor, the 886 is your ticket; plus it has Audyssey MultEQ XT which is a great help for your sub(s), and is also MultEQ Pro Installer-Ready. But strictly for sound quality alone, the UMC-1 is the One! I firmly believe.

Most of the time i will be playing movies and concerts.
Later this year i'm gonna buy either the Oppo 83 or the Oppo 83 SE. Music will be played on cd, or FLAC through a media-player (HDX....).
70 % movies/ concerts ... 30 % music at the moment

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but I see people suggest the XMC-1 as a possible alternative to the UMC-1. Where do I sign up for the XMC preorder?

Thats why i started this topic. There is an Onkyo 886 in the market here, €800,-. 2 Months old.
But i also have the UMC-1 (according to Sarah) planned between May 15th and May 30th. And that ofcourse a new one.
There was a powerbuy here for the Onkyo PR-SC5507, but that's not an option at the moment for me. So i went for the UMC-1 or the 886.
The Onkyo has Audyssey and more connections, but the reviews for the UMC-1 are gettin better and better. And the E is a nice match with my XPA-5.
That's why it's a difficult decision between the two .....

Another vote for UMC-1 SQ here: I got my UMC-1 hooked up yesterday and just with basic config (EMO-Q plus coarse tweaking) the SQ is incredible, it is much better than the Yamaha it replaces (bugs not withstanding), the difference is definitely noticeable.

So if i'm gonna play movies and bluray, the best is the onkyo ? And if i wanna listen to music , the best is the emotiva ?
