I wanted to start this thread to get opinions on speakers, center channel specifically. Over the years, I've tried numerous brands, Magnepan, Monitor Audio, Onix (Bigfoot), SVS, and lately the Emotiva 6.3 Let's hear it, what is the best center channel speaker you've heard and what have you compared it to. I for one would love to hear about B&W's HTM or, Martin Logan's Theater i

Both of those sound nice (and I used to own the B&W) but the "ultimate" center channel would be a third speaker that is exactly the same as your front mains. So pick any "ultimate" speaker you like and buy three.

David's right, but I'll play. The best is the Druid center that matches my tower Druids.
Does it matter that they're different colors?

Oddly, sometimes, a different brand center channel sounds better with different mains as opposed to all three fronts from one manufacturer. I am more focused on the dialogue articulation and fine detail with some of the better center channel speakers out there and would like to hear how they compare with other brands people have owned or auditioned.

I'll play too and say Yes it does matter that it's a different color ;D For the record, I use the ERM 6.3 with my home made main speakers. They sound very well matched and blended. Is it the best center channel? Who knows? But I can say that it works perfectly for me, and I don't plan on changing anytime soon.

maybe I wasn't clear.
If we were to have three or four of the better center channel speakers auditioned against eachother (without the main speakers, to assess detail, voicing, etc..), what would those speakers be?

Well, my vote goes to M&K (miller& kreisel), specifically their S-5000THX set that they made for Dolby to mix the download and sound editing since the 90's. and yes, they sold them too. just my 2 cents... -b

I heard a full system of the M&K's years ago and they sounded great.

Well now Porscheguy, you obviously don't understand how multiple speakers interfere with each other and cause all sorts of wave distortion and flex capacitor integration problems. The best solution is not to have many speakers, as in your setup, but to have just ONE speaker (in a sealed enclosure, of course), facing outward at body level. Here is what I use. I am sure that mine will outperform yours any day of the week.
