I currently have a Denon 3300. Love it. Can't wait to mate it up with an EMO amp. 12 years old, so no HDMI switching, but I work around that with a switcher. But it works. No issues what so ever other than missing 7.1 and the newer audio formats. Is anyone running the new Onkyo 808? Newegg has it for $699 and am thinking it's time to pull the trigger. Seems to have a few bugs with networking, but it sure would be nice to finally step into HDMI switching to manage my cables. Are the headaches worth it?
I am thinking of an XPA 3 or 2 x UPA 1 and let the receiver handle the center. Just having a tough time making up my mind. I would rather spend the money here.

Wait for the XMC-1? ...And get one UPA-5 along with two UPA-1s.

For two channel it can put out >300W per @4ohms.

Are the headaches worth it? What headaches? My 807 works without a glitch - have never had any issues whatsoever. The only annoyance is the lack of a Zone 1 trigger output. I also miss having direct access to the main listening modes (direct, straight, stereo, etc.) without having to toggle across a bunch of modes that I don't care about. There's plenty of power, too, but having the UPA-7 in place did make a positive difference, especially at louder volume levels, and I wish I hadn't sold it.

Woof Woof....get the 1007!! I also own an Onkyo 807....I had some minor issues when I first got it....but Onkyo had a new firmware download when I pulled it out of the box....and after I played for a while ;D I downloaded the firmware and everything was fixed.... magic!! You will love having assignable HDMI switching...plus upconversion... for stuff you never thought you gave a crap to have in 1080p.. (my Wii looks killer with upconversion...plus you can buy an hdmi adapter for it (neoya.com)) The 808 adds a few more network providers....but mainly just 3D....if your into that sort of thing... Go with accessories4less... they are great....

I own the 807, so far its been great. I still cannot get internet radio. arghh. but I am able to connect to my home server for music. For some reason the mac address doesnt work at onkyo.com hmmm, still waiting for an answer from onkyo. I think hell will freeze over first. Other than that, its good for a cheaper amp. (feature wise) I could use alittle more power. perhaps an xpa-5 is in my future.

By the way, I just recommended a friend to purchase the 807 (an open box from Best Buy and for only $300!!!)! That is a heck of a deal, and with the full 2-year warranty! The 807 is an excellent receiver; it has received praise reviews from all over! Here's just one example: => @ www.hometheatermag.com/receivers/onkyo_tx-nr807_av_receiver/Bravo to all owners of this excellent receiver! ...Including Souless.

Thanks for the info guys. The only Best Buy near me that carries anything worthwhile is a magnolia and they do not understand the term negotiate. Furthermore, their inventory is crap. They do not yet carry the *08 series of Onkyo, the 3311 or higher series Denon, or new Elite PIO's. Other Best Buy's in the area are more eager to negotiate but just don't carry the higher end models. The Magnolia still has SC-25's in stock at MSRP. So I will keep trolling the boards and web for the best deal. Waiting for the next emo deal like that UPA-5 I missed out on.
But more importantly, our family went from 2.0 to 2.1 with addition of our first child. Time in the HT and music hall has been non existent.

FWIW, I've had the Integra DTR 40.2 in my system for about 2 months with no glitches whatsoever. The feature set is comprehensive for my needs. Love the fact that I can play 24 bit FLAC files from a thumb drive through the front USB port. As far as sound quality, it's great for home theater. For 2 channel CD listening, I prefer my Emotiva USP-1/ERC-1 combo. To be fair, I have not tried listening to the ERC-1 thru the Integra. I'm comparing the Emo setup to the Oppo/Integra combination. I presume the Onkyo will perform comparably to the Integra. Bought the Integra to support my local dealer. YMMV.

Yeah, everybody wants a great receiver or pre/pro for less than $500, even better for $300; but nobody wants to go dancing any more at the Jazzz cabaret club, or the Bluess grooveyard!... ...And Classical Concert Hall, just forget it, nobody buys tickets anymore either! Not people like us anyway; we're just much too cheap! ;D

With the Denon 3310 <$500 via Amazon, I believe my decision has been made. Now, lets mate it with an XPA-5 and start really enjoying music and movies!

Do you know how this compares to the Onkyo 708? It looks like the Denon is 7.1 and the Onkyo is 7.2. I wonder if the Denon is last year's model. I may just spring for the UMC-1 even with the mixed press. I don't need an amp since I have the XPA-5 as well. I like the fact that Onkyo's room correction is time tested but paying for amps I don't need and possibly sacrificing SQ is tough. After all SQ rules over all other for me. I am cautiously optimistic.

Denon makes good stuff without a doubt. So does Onkyo. I myself prefer Onkyo products. Unless your worried about "3D" capability and plan on keeping this reciever for a bit, Id go with whichever is cheapest. I also recommend accessories4less.com They have the best net prices on new/open box and refurbs(the refurbs basically are "new").

Why not get the UMC-1 and a real amp? You fail to mention your speakers but I think you have two B&W 805's and two Emo in-walls plus other speakers? Note that although B&W specifies the 805 at 88dB's sensitivity (efficiency), a major audiophile magazine measured it at only 85.5dB's. That means it takes almost twice as much power as the spec indicates. You can buy the Emo UMC-1 for $699, no sales tax, free shipping and a $100 Emo bucks. Use the $100 Emo bucks on an Emo amp like the UPA-5 for a net price of $329. That's a net of $1028 for the UMC-1 and UPA-5 (or $1198 for the UMC-1 and UPA-7)(plus you get a certificate for 40% off your next generation Emo pre-pro). Don't be fooled by the 7 x 135 watts per channel rating of the Denon and Onkyo receivers. That is not with all channels operating (notice they don't dare mention what it puts out with all channels operating and especially into 4 ohms). The trend over the past few years is to put less powerful amps in the receivers. Check the dwindling weights for succeeding models like the Onkyo 805 (50.9 lbs), 806, 807 and 808 (40.3 lbs). The new Onkyo TX-NR1008 is 10.8 lbs lighter than the 1007. Where did the weight go folks? (yeah, I know, some of the newer models have the lower weight newer class amps, too bad) The Emo UMC-1 and UPA-7 weigh 82 lbs (two chassis) Home Theater and Sound and Vision magazine measured power per channel: Denon AVR-2311CI ($899) @ 66.3 watts with 7 channel operating into 8 ohms Onkyo TX-NR5008 ($2699) @ 78.7 watts with 7 channels operating into 8 ohms Onkyo TX-NR1008 ($1399) @ 45 watts with 7 channels operating into 8 ohms (protection limited output to 45 watts) These figures are for 8 ohms. Who knows what might have happened if they had tested them into 4 ohms will all channels operating or even 6 ohms. The UPA-5 and UPA-7 test out (Audio Precision) @ 128 watts into 8 ohms and @ 186 watts into 4 ohms with 5 & 7 channels operating, completely stable into 4 ohms with all channels operating. This is much more than simply 3dB's more volume at 8 ohms. These are real honest to goodness macho he-man amps!!! ;D ;D ;D
