Suggest trying a different cable. OR type of cable HDMI, Composite, etc. Start with easiest solution first.

Have him try calling Oppo Tech Support. They are a great company and I would think they would be happy to help troubleshoot.

Is the buyer from overseas and his name starts with "M"? ;D
Sorry, but it could happen, you know.

I appreciate the responses,I have a feeling this is going to be ugly.I added a region free chip to the unit.I do know for a fact that the buyer has another unit a BDP-83,he stated this himself,I was doing some checking in his feedback profile and noticed he recently purchased a region free mod kit,wtf I don't know if he installed it or not or what is going on.He did admit the unit was packed fine,I don't know if I should refund or just blow him off

Did he pay for insurance when he bought it? If so, maybe it was damaged in shipping. its a long shot but......

There is a 97% chance he's an idiot, or trying to scam you. You'd better hope he didn't wreck his and is now trying to pawn the junker as the one you sent him. I've had that happen to me. Make sure the serials match.

Thank you! Tell him to send the unit back to you at his cost (normal protocol). You will check it out and if it has legitimate damage then you'll refund his money. Otherwise, it's his unit. He can open a complaint under paypal if that's how he paid. I have over 1800 positive transactions on ebay. This happens all the time... ;D

Sounds like he messed his other one up trying to modify it. Now he is trying to scam you. I could be wrong though. It seems like every time I try to sell anything on eBay anymore it is more trouble than it is worth. Too many scammers and idiots buying the wrong items.

It saddens me that folks cannot conduct themselves as honorable citizens of any country. I believe DMRAUPP is such an honorable person and is trying to help someone out. I am very suspicious of the buyer.
Sorry you are having to go through this as time is precious.

Assuming this guy is telling the truth about the problems (no video, audio and it gets hot), maybe you should call Oppo and ask them if these are symptoms of a bungled attempt to make the player region free? Especially the one about the Oppo getting hot, because that is a more specific problem for which they may have some insight as to what could cause that to happen (assuming it really is getting hot).
It does sound fishy to me. Shades of a certain "M" character who recently had "problems" with his UMC-1. ;D Good luck with getting this resolved.
