My 12 is on its way back to me as of Thursday afternoon. I shipped it to Franklin on Tuesday. That's pretty quick and a credit to the Emo team.
I expect that since this pattern of plate amp failures emerged, Emo has it figured out and our problem will be solved.
Thanks.

Hmmmm This is interesting. I am not sure why anyone would have multiple failures, but I will dig into it. L Any updates?

I just want to toss in my experience with the Ultra 12 subs. I ordered my 2 Ultra 12 subs when they were first launched. I have played them loud for extended periods of time. My friends all comment about "feeling" the bass that emanates from them. I have ran countless bass test tones through them, played "bass" CDs through them, and watched many, many, bass heavy movies at insane volume levels through them....and I have not had one single issue with them. Please don't let a bad batch ruin the reputation of these subs. They are good performing subs at a low cost. Are they the last word in subwoofers? Not at all. There are things I would change about them. Are they worth the money Emotiva is asking for them? Well, I haven't seen similarly priced subs beat them yet. Of course, I have to admit that my subwoofer auditioning has been extremely limited...so take that last sentence with a tiny bit of salt. ;D

Guys I have to say I read all this and it seems to be the same with almost self contained plate amp design. I have owned 3 different midpriced 400.00 woofers and each one has gone out. I ordered an ultra 12 last night because of the 5 year warranty. These folks seem to have a good rep so I figure they'll take care of it or take it back. The only woofer I've never had problems with is my Dahlquist DQ1w with active crossover and exteranl amp. Where have these designs gone?
Keep you posted

I have an Infinity self powered 12' sub woofer that I have owned for 10 years now and have never had any problems with the plate amps. Come to think of it, I have yet to experience amp problems in any sub woofer I have owned over the past 40 years. Knock on wood. ;D

My ultra 10 should be back for the second time on Monday. Bought 2 of them in April, one went bad a month later ( amp went bad) . Got it back and a month later it went bad again. Seems they definitely have some issues with amps lately. They covered shipping both ways the second time. Hopefully third time is a charm.

Spoke to one of the guys at Emotiva today about my concern over this issue since I just order the ultra 12. He assured me that it was just a bad batch or run of amps and that anyone who has had problems has been taken care of and will continue to be taken care of if problems arise.
How many companies can you really get to, talk to someone knowledgeable and have a warranty as solid as these guys do. I feel great about my purchase of a new USP 1, ERC 2, XPA-1's X 2 and the ultra 12. Can't wait for it all to show up.

I have an Infinity self powered 12' sub woofer A 12 foot sub, that must rock the house. ;D That's where the sub is bigger than the baffle right? Ha, ha. 12 foot or 12 inches how big a difference could that be? ;D ;D The trouble is the ceiling in my listening room varies from 9 feet high to 14 feet high. I am afraid that the 12 foot woofer won't fit. I guess I will just have to fix my punctuation error then, won't I? Someone, who shall remain nameless, must be drinking too much Irish Ale. Why else would he pick on a crippled old man. lol How depraved can one Irishman be! ;D ;D ;D Your turn nemesis. Thanks for the laughes. You put a big smile on my face.

I wanted to update. My sub was repaired without issue. Emo service is great, and I hope I get many trouble free years out of my sub.

Update on mine...Bought within a few weeks of release. Both Ultra 12's quit within a week of each other. (they are used in the same system)
Called Emotiva, bought return labels from Emo and saved some bucks.
Get this part...received confirmation that shipment arrived at Emo at 9:00 am and received confirmation that they were shipped back out at 4 pm on SAME DAY.
Repair Cards stated "Replaced Cap" (guessing capacitor) Everything is working well and glad to have them back...outstanding service, shipped out, repaired, and back to my house in one week.

For the guys who are running two U12's, how big is your room?
I'm a little tight on my HT build and things are getting out of hand. I might just give in and get the U12's and save myself some money.
My room is 27x20x9
One Monitor Audio 10" will be rear dead center. The two would be for the front.

12x17x9....originally bought 2 for more even bass response throughout the room, but ended up stacking them for more impact in movies. In-room evenness is less than desired this way, but they dial back so nicely when used in 2 channel mode that I'm pretty happy. Plus I added 2 UPA-1's for the L and R main....and lo and behold, my main didn't need as much "help" from the subs in 2 channel mode. To make a big improvement from this it will easily cost $2K or so on other subs...and that is projector money!

Well I just tried to use my Ultra 10 in the bedroom system for the first time in a month and the plate amp is dead again. This is the second time.
