richtx6My ultra 12 sub had the same issue, it was in warranty so Emotiva sent a cheque for me to buy a replacement amp. I chose this one: www.parts-express.com/yung-sd300-300w-class-d-subwoofer-plate-amplifier-module-no-boost--301-508It seems to work good. I ended up sealing the back of the sub with a piece of wood cut large enough to completely fill the hole and room to screw it in, sealed with a silicone of some sort. Also there is a tiny hole through the wood for the speaker cable to run through, and then I just mounted the plate amp onto another external wooden box. My sub was down for a number of weeks so I can't really directly compare the sound, I do think the original amp had more power and punch but this one is no slouch either. Eventually I will replace the entire sub though.

Rory, I know we keep going back and forth about this issue but it's more about the principle of knowing you had a problem and continued to just hope the warranty runs it's course and leave customers hanging when the problem raises it's ugly head. The plate amps you suggest from Parts Express are made by the same people you used to build this bad amps and can't get any support from so that's just throwing good money after bad. As for the size of the cut our that is not a concern because I'm pretty handy when it comes to wood working. Having owned audio stores and been a regional manager for several large audio manufactures I have some knowledge of what works with what. I'm having a hard time buying the idea that the specs would make much of a difference that can't be tuned out once installed. Right now they are just great looking cabinets with nice woofers in them that are worthless. Now, Can I buy a couple of these new plate amps as replacements? Looks like the BasX plate is about the same fit or are they too built by the same old guys and if not sell me two of them and restore my faith in the way Emo does business. Second, as you suggested, I should "Call" if I need support. Well that's all well and good but when I'm told that no one is available and to leave my number several times and would be called back and never hear anything it brings into question how customers are treated. Large Black Hole. Left you a message and my number about an hour ago at Emo. I won't hold my breath until I have my call returned. Attachment DeletedRich

Copperpipe,
Thanks for the info and as you have read from Rory that these amps from Parts Express are made by the same folks that made the crap they put in the Ultra's.. With them knowing this and not being able to service them and knowing that it seems like Emo should have taken this into consideration when dealing with this failure in and out of warranty just a recall on a car. Mine are about 6 months past the warranty and now they suggest I buy the same replacement from another vendor. It looks like the BasX amps may be similar to the Ultra but won't know until I do or don't get a call back from Rory, who I just left a message with at EMO.
I'll keep the group posted because it's now the principle of them knowing they had a problem and hiding behind the warranty limitations.
Don't get me wrong, I love my USP preamp, ERC2 CD player and 2 XPA=1's but you would think a company who prides themselves on power equipment would have not gone with a vendor that gave them non serviceable subwoofer amps, parts or schematics and hides behind the warranty or sent you a check to buy the same inferior amp from Parts Express. Seems there is a pattern with all there speakers systems, here today and gone tomorrow. Stick to what you do best.
They only piece of equipment that has been in the line for ever is the XPA-1 and I love mine.

And they have switched subwoofer amps.

The previous subwoofers were great sounding units. Unfortunately, Sonovox/Bash, the amplifier vendor is totally unreliable and doesn't support their products after they sell them. They also don't provide support documentation so that their customers (us) can service them properly. So, we discontinued the line until we could re-design a new amplifier to replace the Bash units. Now we have brand-new amplifiers that are rock solid, and we service and support them ourselves. Also, we heard from many of our customers that they want a little extra slam on the bottom end, So the new models are ported or have passive radiators is to extend the low-frequency output. Hi Jim, Well, you live and learn... This is one of the few times we didn't take complete control of the design and we lived to regret it. The old subs were really nice except for the spotty reliability of the module... this would have been a minor annoyance if we received proper support from the manufacture of the amp plate. But they hung us out to dry. Lesson learned. We have 100% control now.

Copperpipe, Thanks for the info and as you have read from Rory that these amps from Parts Express are made by the same folks that made the crap they put in the Ultra's.. I don't know, there are a lot of amps made by different manufacturers available on Parts Express. My replacement was not a bash amp, so I'm definitely not using the same guys. I understand your frustration since I was in the same spot with my sub. Ultimately I decided life is too short to get angry about it, and just fixed it myself.

Copperpipe,
It's not the money, it's the principle of the fact they knew about it and Dan said on Dec 3rd this year that the company was hung out to dry. No the customers were hung out to dry. I'm only angry because of the treatment that I have received from the staff. I have been very pleasant to everyone and I would receive a call back about this issue, RADIO SILENCE. Called 6 times left my number not a word. I have been to Franklin and met Dan and Cathy and was very impressed but things have changed.
As you read I just want to BUY two BasX 12 plate amps because they look as if they will fit. I have replaced amps in woofers before but never gotten this kind of lip service.
I hope others with the same problem speak up because this should have been a RECALL issue due to the lack of due diligence on there part.
It's not as if I'm asking for something for nothing. I can make it fit if they will sell it to me. I like the way the ultra's look and are made.
