Chris Knight opened for Cody Canada and The Departed last night at The Vogue here in Indianapolis. Really good show. I got the opportunity to meet both Chris and Cody and both were really nice folks. I'll try and find some tunes to post later.

2 most recent shows were:
Furthur at the Pavillion in Boston, great venue - on the water, beautiful night. For those who don't know, the band consists of members of the Grateful Dead (Weir, Lesh) and decades later they are still ripping it up!
Hot Tuna at the Somerville Theatre v- Jorma's voice is still fantastic.

Saw Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck last night. First I'm not into beach music so I won't go there, but Jeff looks great for 69. He was AWESOME, INCREDIBLE, Great. It was a magic bus ride. Now I know what it was like to see Hendrix. Only complaint was it was only for 1.5 hours. I've seen Jeff 3 other times and I believe this was the best. Great accompanying talent. In MY opinion he is the master. If you get a chance don't miss Jeff.

I too just saw the Brian Wilson & Jeff Beck show at the LA Greek Theatre. First thanks to autiger for reminding me to buy tickets! Next, I am into the Beach Boys with them being my first favorite band (and my first concert exactly 50 years ago). Accounting for their age Brian Wilson and friends were very satisfying, in LA they played the entire "Pet Sounds" album which was great to hear. Jeff Beck on the other hand needed no qualifiers, for any age he was great! His playing soars, and his band travelled with him, totally agree with autiger, he is the master. I also loved the encore with both bands where Wilson's harmonies and Beck's melodies blended beautifully, I thought 'Danny Boy' was a masterpiece. Super night!

Yesterday I enjoyed a concert of Simon Phillips, part of the Protocol II tour. He is one of the best drummers around. Together with his band he played powerful jazz. Most important he and the band had a lot of fun on stage. I was fortunate to be on the first row, being almost on the stage. Not only was I close to the band, actually I could almost shake the hand of Steve Weingart. But I heard most sound from the stage and not from the PA. This gives me a reference how for example the drums should sound compared to what I hear at home. Sure, it is louder on stage than at my home. It amazes me how bright the drums are in real. And then I'm not only reference to the cymbals, but also e.g. the snare drum. Also nice is to feel the bass drums. I bought their new CD (every member of the band signed it, thanks guys!), now I can try to reproduce the sound from stage at home. Just before the concert I looked at the website of Simon ( www.simon-phillips.com). He is well know as drummer of Toto, but I was surprised by the sheer number of other artists he played with, and all those different styles. I then also discovered he was part of the band Ph.d. Their LP "Is it safe?" was one of the first LPs I bought myself early in the 80s. I seem to like his music since I was young.

^^Love love love Brian Setzer. Was lucky enough to see The Stray Cats back in about 1988. Have not seen the orchestra yet. Part of the show he was playing only with his drummer and an up right bass player. They did all the Stray Cats hits. It was pretty amazing.
For me personally, I think his version of Sleepwalk is one of my favorites. Better than the original Santo and Johnny version.

Last night I braved the 8" snowfall to see Holly Williams and Jason Isbel. Holly is Hank Jr's daughter and she has an entertaining voice and daddy's song writing chops. Jason Isbel, ex Drive By Trucker, is the real deal....and also a great songwriter. Was almost a 3 hour show...really worth the $20 ticket at The Vogue here in Indianapolis. Killer show. Here are a few tunes:

Indyscammer,
I saw Jason Isbell last year when he was touring with Ryan Adams. He put on a great show, and Southeastern is an incredible album.

I was thinking it would be a more mellow show than I like but was wrong on that point too. Bought Southeastern and Here We Rest both. Amanda Shires (Jason's wife and fiddle player) signed Southeastern for me. Jason was busy out back catching cancer if you know what I mean. Signed copy of Holly's CD was also received. Next show up for me is probably Rhett Miller in late March at Radio Radio unless I travel to Chicago March 1 to see Cowboy Mouth at House of Blues.

Looking forward to that one, review Sunday, OK maybe Monday will be a more realistic target. Cheers Gary

Saw Alejandro Escovedo and The Sensitive Boys last night at the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso, IN from a box! Basically I was sitting on stage....best seats I can imagine. Here's a couple of photos. That Gibson hollow body was especially awesome.
