Just ordered the Panasonic 50" 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV TC-P50ST30 from Newegg.com. I ordered from them because of the Bill Me Later 6 months interest free. I don't need the 3D but that's o.k..

Yes, it was a long time coming. My 40" Sony has been acting flaky and has some design flaws. Now the tv might no longer be the weakest component and the larger screen will make it easier to see with my crappy eyes (very large correction).

Nice!!
I recently upgraded from an older 42" 720p LG to a 50" LG 1080p (non-3D) and the difference in picture quality and size was quite impressive. I think you'll be very pleased with your purchase.
When it arrives, pop in a good blu-ray or DVD, sit back and enjoy!!

I think that's a good choice of screen you've made there - assuming the price was right.

Great Choice Theresa!
I know you just copied me Theresa as I also have a 50" 1080p Panny plasma. You'll be stunned when you put a high quality Blu-Ray movie on it.
Keep that brightness, color and contrast down below 50 for awhile during break-in. Turn the set off for a few minutes and then on again several times during break-in. Any old movie on replay loop is fine 24 hours a day, I used Finding Nemo and others with lots of different colors. LOTR is right about the "cinema" being the most natural setting (at least on my 2 year old set).
Also sprinkle the set with holy water if you can find some. A Catholic or Greek Othodox Church is a good source. No kosher water please!
If that Sony BR blows up there is an entry level Panny BDP-75 on sale at Costco for $79. I bought one for my sister for her 32" Panny LCD and it is the same video as the higher models, but no 3D and it has stunning video quality. (Don't listen to LOTR badmouth the Panny Blu-Ray's, he's a nut!). ;D
Be sure you don't dust or clean that screen with anything but display or monitor cleaner and only a micro fiber cloth, no paper towels or Kleenex or sandpaper!

Thank you all. I am feeling pretty excited. The Sony is about 3 years old and was the cheapest 40" 1080P they made at the time so it hasn't been the greatest. I've been shopping for a new one for more than six months, initially considering a LG LED than finding out from the folks here that plasma is a better choice.

As a former German Catholic, I know all about holy water. I used to volunteer in a soup kitchen where one of the workers "blessed" the whole place with holy water every day. But my break with the Catholic Church was dramatic and extreme so I wouldn't do such a thing these days.

That is an excellent TV. Congrats. The only possible issue I have read is the brightness fluctuations. Hopefully your TV will not suffer from that.
