I believe I did the research to the best of my ability and am enjoying the results right now. No buyer's remorse.

Great! I think there is more buyer's remorse when you don't really need something. My old t.v. was taking a long time to warm up and was just too small. I sold it to the guy who walks my dog and he is extremely pleased with it. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, he's never had a t.v. of nearly that size before this.

If it was a bargain, then it's not ignorance that trigger the sale.

No I didn't mean the man bought out of ignorance, but meant his being wowed by the size and picture, he hasn't experienced bigger ones that were anything near HD. He got a bargain, $300 paid over time.

Trying to sell my 42" now for $300 as well. So many bites, no takers. Only listing on CL as shipping isn't an option. I figured it would be long gone. My brothers co-workers apparently had interest but nothing definite yet.

I've been breaking it in using a "break in DVD" I downloaded. Is this safe? It spends an awful lot of time with shades of white, many times longer than it spends on a color.

Congrats on the new TV. I wouldn't be too worried about burn in, just turn down the "Contrast" to a level where it is not too dull to be unwatchable and try not to watch too much 4:3 or other program content with black bars and you will be fine. I don't know why everyone is so keen on pre ageing the phosphors. If you look after them they will be still good in many years. My 12 year old 72cm Loewe still beats any current plasma for PQ! It is ashame the picture is so darn small especially when watching 2.35:1 movies.

I've been running the "slide show" for maybe 24 hours so far and thats just when I'm not watching. I'm trying to avoid all non-16:9 material until I get 100 hours of burn-in. The color balance has seemed to change.

Ahh colour, so hard to get right and very difficult to set up by eye especially in varying ambient light conditions. You are quite right the colour will change and keep on changing as the display gets older. I haven't seen any actual data on colour change with aging of the phosphors only anecdotal evidence. It has always seemed to me that unless you are going to get a calibration done you may as well just watch the tv instead and tweak the settings as you go. I have been waiting for the funds to get a Spyder3 for this very purpose, unfortunately it is low on the list of priorities with the recent arrival of #3

Then there are the shows/DVDs whose color balance is so far off as to be unbearable without adjustment of the set. Watching Bird right now. The DVD isn't up to BD standards.

It's OK Theresa, but a Blu-ray with full 1080p resolution and at a 1.78:1 aspect ratio (like 'Avatar'), would be best, I think. {That's the Blu-ray movie I used meself, and I run it on a loop for eight days straight.} You want moving images and a good gamut of colors all across the screen (no black bars) with both bright and dark scenes. ...You know, a good average material... You do have a Blu-ray player (yes you do, a Sony one) and some Blu-ray movies right (I'm sure you do)?
