My Samsung does the same thing...Temporary IR. "scroll" and I are best friends by now. I had a Panasonic Plasma for 2 weeks when I was deciding on my T.V. (One of the best things best buy is good for, 30 day in home trial, no questions asked...as long as you didn't have it mounted, then the sale is final). Anyways, I never had a single issue with IR in the Panasonic. It's something about the way they infuse the plasma. Between two glass panels? It Just looked so grainy compared to the Samsung. I have a 27" Samsung LCD computer monitor which strains my eyes after too much usage. LCD looks too fake to me. But it is VERY nice for a computer monitor. I am considering giving Panasonic another chance. I am about to buy another plasma for the living room, and my brother LOVES video games. For HOURS. Something about the Samsung I just don't trust to be fully exempt from permanent IR. I know Emotiva is an audio company....but perhaps...Just perhaps, they should get into plasma land. How about a Emotiva Plasma display to match your processor, amps, and speakers? ;D You read too many novels.

I have a 50" panny plasma, a 58" samsung plasmas, a 42" hitachi plasma and 4 lcd of various types around the house and I've never had a problem with any of them. To be honest my hitachi hdt42 has the best pq of them all and it's almost 6 years old now with 34K hours on it. I also have my panny 7000 but thats different. The hitachi was $5400 when I bought it and it was money well spent. I really like the panny and samsung plasmas also but they seem to give up pq vs the hitachi in all areas. All are ISF calibrated BTW.

Wow Nate, I didn't realise you had so many TVs at your place! Your Hitachi plasma one, a 42" class for $5,400!!! ...What model is it? Could it be the 42HDT52? ...Yes it is! MSRP: $5,400 Cdn, or $4,000 US, back in 2005.

LOTR So, you are a fan of my writing style, or my vivid imagination? I do read a lot of Larry Mcmurtry, but that's just my Texas roots.

N8DOGG,
Just curious, but how did your Panasonic look before it was calibrated? I'm wondering, because as I was testing T.V.s they of course were not professionally calibrated. Off the bat, with only tampering with the settings, the Samsung was much more clear. It was ultimately why I took the Panasonic back. It also looked to be very cheap, where the Samsung has a very classy look to it...IMO

Just found that earlier today: Panasonic 55" ST30 Plasma 3D for only $1,044 with free shipping and 2 pairs of 3D glasses + 'Avatar 3D' BD WoW! _________________________ And cool videos on HDTVs shootout (2011 models). => If you look at all the other videos (15 videos total) in that section, there is a LOT of info on Panasonic, Samsung, LG Plasma sets, and also on Sharp Elite, Samsung, Panasonic, and Sony LCD (LCOS) backlit, edgelit LEDs with local dimming. And all compared to their Reference HDTV; the plasma Pioneer Elite Signature Pro-FD141FD KURO. And you have few Video professional calibrators, like Kevin Miller, DeWayne Davis (D-Nice), and Robert Zhon, and simply the best info you can get on everything you want to know. Highly Recommended for best up-to-date Knowledge. * The Sharp Elite LCD LED would have been the winner if it wouldn't have been for its color decoding issue. ...But if this'll get fixed with a firmware update, watch out, there is a new leader in town! ** The Samsung D8000 Plasma was the favorite of two professional calibrators (out of three); Kevin Miller and D-Nice. *** Also, the Panny VT30 and the Sammy D8000 plasma sets were reviewed in Sound & Vision. ...And Home Theater. ...And AREA DVD. ...And in the UK, from various places. ...And more places in the USA as well. ...The top LG plasma too. And the top LED Sony. And the top LED Sharp Elite. And the Sammy LED. And all the plasma KUROS...

Other than a couple quick stops at the lousy in-store 3D demo setups, I just watched 3D for the first time a few days ago. The sales guy was very nice and spent quite a bit of time with me. We watched Avatar on a 65" Panny plasma. He switched back and forth between 3D and 2D a number of times for various scenes.
All I can say is that I was quite unimpressed. It seemed more amateuristic than I expected and bordered on laughable in parts. It seemed to me like a 3D presentation of shallow depth with a flat 2D space behind it.
I can see that I will be happy with my 2D Panny plasma for a very long time.

To me they look unnatural and artificial. Just can't get into the movie as I'm constantly thinking and conscious of the darned glasses. Think I'll just skip the whole 3D fad and wait for the holographic technology to become mainstream. Oh, almost forgot the obligatory YMMV!

My neighbor has a 42" Hitachi plasma(maybe even the same model as yours)they bought back a few years ago and it is an excellent TV with an excellent picture still to this day, looking good. I don't know why they got out of manufacturing plasma monitors, they were excellent. I can recall back 10-12 years ago that Hitachi made one of, if not the best, RPCRT on the market with a great picture and superior cabinetry, yet, in recent years when it comes to any type of television, they have pretty much dropped off the map. Kind of strange since few, if any, retailers that I have seen carry the Hitachi brand any more.

It got some raved reviews from the Ultimate AV mag. ...By Tom Norton (have those at home). Then they made RPTV HDTV LCDs. ...And those were not that great, but were less expensive too than other manufacturers. Great set of features, but truly lacking in real world performance. {I still even have one of those.} You can probably google 'Hitachi's business' to find out more on why they are now into the obscure zone.

As Hemster said it looks "unnatural and artificial." Unnatural Bob, just like some of those adult 2D bestiality videos you watch. Warning: You must be 18 years old to view this video! Theresa does have a very nice plasma though for 2D.

Yes, the t.v., bdplayer and pre-pro are all compatible but I just am not interested on purchasing disks that look artificial.

Ok, let's change the subject then (enough metamorphosis). We'll stay with 2D, no problemo amigos! ;D ____________________________ * Here's a video on Questions and Answers after an HDTV's shootout (2011 models). [There was a Panasonic Plasma VT30, a Samsung Plasma D8000, a Samsung LED D8000, a Sharp Elite Pro LED, an LG LED, and a Sony LED; plus a Reference display.] ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ * And this video on the new Sharp Elite Pro LCD LED with Full Array Back-lit with local dimming and with over 300 independent back zones. ...The Black Level is AWESOME!
