Bruce; With your post #139, we are not far apart. But here is where I will take issue with you. here is your quote:
"You may ask yourself why the UMC-1 has not been Evaluated by most of the people that have reviewed the Denon,Onkyo,Integra and most other Pre Pros is it because they would give the UMC-1 a negative review and hurt the sales?"
Emo does make good power amps, speakers and subwoofers. Except Audioholics, Secrets... & an occasional positive mention from Audiophile, where are the reviews of these rather excellent products? So, how true is your statement?
I expect Emo to show consistent improvements in the design and manufacture of future pro/pros. And I too hope that the XMC-1 will be a killer pre/pro. I look forward to the day when you and me and Bill and Theresa can be on the same side of the Emo fence. We can all meet at Emofest and have a great time drowning our differences in sublime Emosound. Be well my friend! ;D

I might post I have had no issues with the Onkyos I have owned but I'm not going to have an issue with that persons thoughts if done in a respectful way. I'm certainly not going to tell that person how they should post in whatever forum the discussion is taking place.
Bill
My response to that is: No matter how 'respectful' your post sounds to you, or that you think it is; it needs to be FACTUAL. If I point out a false or illogical comment, and that is taken as trying to dictate to the poster as what he/she should say, then so be it. Guilty as charged. But that is an unfortunate position to take. I have been corrected many times on this forum. Not once have I accused the poster of infringing on my free speech. Then again, caffeine and alcohol have numbed my nerve endings! ;D ;D ;D

Bill, it seems apparent to me that you have a need to disprove the UMC no matter what your choosing of words, or strategy. YOU don't like the UMC. BULLSEYE!

Can't we all just get along....seriously. Probably the main reason I spend most of my time in the Klipsch forums. Last time I checked, Klipsch does not make pre/pros. This happens to be the most volatile thread on this forum. It is not for the weak of heart or A/V knowledge. The Mods hang out here like FHP (Florida Highway Patrol)Troopers. You will find a lot more solace in the SPEAKERS thread. So far, these have been very pleasant and edifying exchanges! ;D ;D ;D

I have no need to disprove the UMC-1 in the least. If I mention the issues I had with the UMC-1 or if I feel there are alternatives in the $499.00 price range is that being disproving? Seeing that you are a new member here you have missed the numerous times I have suggested that people try the UMC-1 in their system to see if it will be a good fit. I have done that here and on AVS as I feel the only way to know about a specific component is to use it in ones own system. I will not suggest that now as there is no 30 day return period anymore with the UMC-1. The other issue is that there is still no new FW to correct the remaining issues some UMC-1 owners are having. When the FW is released and if it corrects these issues then I would definitely suggest that people try it in their systems. At $499.00 the cost of the UMC-1 is a bargain but not if one will have operational issues on a consistent basis. I would rather spend additional money to get a more reliable AVR/prepro. The 5508 definitely costs more than the UMC-1 without a doubt. No one that I know is paying $2199 but closer to $1500. Still at least $1k more than the UMC-1. But comparing the two is just not possible IMO as the 5508 has many more features that the UMC-1 does not have. Are those features worth at least $1k more? Probably not to many especially when you consider if someone is on a tight budget. Sorry but I do not understand the first portion of the above from your previous post. But I have said a number of times that I respect Dan, the Emotiva staff and the Mods here for allowing members here to have their say. To suggest that Dan should contact me to "take it easy" would just turn The Lounge into a one sided forum without a doubt. I'm sure many perspective UMC-1 buyers have appreciated the feedback from the members here both negative and positive. Would you much prefer to get the good with the bad for a $499 purchase and be an informed consumer? Or would it be better that all the negative thoughts on the UMC-1 be weeded out so to assure better UMC-1 sales? I agree 100% as there is no perfect prepro. Of course the issues of any prepro are not going to kill anyone unless they are electrocuted. It again comes down to how much tolerance one will have if they have consistent operational issues. Nothing worse then having friends and family over to watch a movie and you are trying to get your prepro to work correctly. This is open to personal opinion and preference IMO. No doubt Emotiva has excellent service but with each FW release for the UMC-1 there are still issues for some owners. Fortunately I have not needed Onkyo service. From what I have read it is lacking to say the least. This could be true but the same can be said for the same people saying their UMC-1 is working flawlessly . I think one of the biggest issues that causes problems here is the emotional attachment some have for the UMC-1. It seems some here take it personal when a negative thought is posted about the UMC-1. It is almost like you are insulting one of their family members. Its only a A/V component. I have no emotional attachment to my gear. If my Onkyo 886 failed tomorrow and Onkyo's service was as bad as I've heard I would buy another brand without hesitation. With that I would not hesitate to voice my opinion. Hopefully no pro Onkyo owners would try to tell me how I should voice that opinion ;D. Bill

I think I'm having forum deja vu. Not that I am near as knowledgeable on Emo products as a lot of you here, but here are my interpretations of what is mainly going on here. Bill, it seems apparent to me that you have a need to disprove the UMC no matter what your choosing of words, or strategy. YOU don't like the UMC. It is $499 dollars. I didn't look to hard but I just found (for comparison basis) the 5508 on Onkyo's site retails for $2,199. This is a difference of $1700. Saying that you want to buy direct from the company. I understand your disapproval, but honestly if I were Big Dan I would ask you to just take it easy (based on prior threads I have seen the UMC disassembled in.) However, saying this as a purchaser in this company, I DO appreciate the 5 star and 1 star ratings. Yours of course, on the UMC, being the latter. simply out of curiosity when is the last time you have given the UMC a run? Jamrock, You are William Wallace and the UMC is your Scotland. ;D Getting upset at Bill for his statements isn't going to do you any good. You love your UMC and that's all that should matter. For some reason you and Bill have it out for arguments sake. You do also help to keep this trend going, it's not just Bill. Keep up the positive posts on the UMC, as they have helped me in my decision and others too im sure. I will state this again. I have spent THOUSANDS of hours reading reviews and have come to the understanding that EVERY processor REGARDLESS of price has some sort of nasty little bug that some people just CAN'T live with. Now, if the nasty little bugs in the UMC aren't going to kill you then how could you go wrong spending $499? Especially with the sound quality it boasts. Besides, Emo has promised to fix these issues to the best of their ability. Is everyone not in agreement that Emo does whatever they can to help you no matter what the issue? Call Onkyo and see what kind of customer service you get. Every time I have had to call Samsung, I have taught the Tech a thing or two. This is completely unacceptable. This is just how it reads over here. ;D So far, my UMC is working flawlessly sitting in the box. BTW, it is the same people since I joined here venting issues with the UMC. I have not seen many if any new threads with non-workable issues. Hey POP, The 5508 is for sale at Accessories For Less $1,499 as this is a big savings for all the 5508 gives back in features.I purchased my Onkyo 3008 at Amazon for $1,199 in the summeras it now sells for $1,900 at the same site. This was a steal for $1,199 for the 3008 and all the features it includes.I do not think Bill hates the UMC-1 as he purchased one a while ago as I also had one myself.I had a few problems as did Bill and we gave up and purchased another Processor. The sound quality of my 3008 is very very close to the UMC-1 and all the add.features sets it apart from the UMC-1.I am not saying the UMC-1 is junk as the sound for 2 ch is great but I could not put up with the other problems I was having.I always have said that Emotiva ranks a close second to OPPO for customer service as I have used their service when I had the UMC-1 and the USP-1 and was very happy.Good luck with your UMC-1 and hope it serves your purpose.

I hold true with the statment I made about no reviews on the UMC-1 only.WE ARE ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE FENCE but have a little problems with the UMC-1.I love Emotiva and have tried many of their products and liked most of them BUT can one COMPANY make ALL great products or just make a couple good ones.I like many companies that make one or two great products not 10 or twenty just good ones do you agree?I think we all should meet at Emotiva next year and have a few good laughs in person as now that would be GREAT !!!!

That is very true about UMC owners getting defensive when negative things are said about it's performance or bugs. The same can be said about the other Emo gear as well. But I think it has more to do with owners defending Emo from an emotional attachment to the company, not so much to a particular piece of gear. I'm guilty of it myself, but only when it's coming from a true troll. In Bill's defense, I don't quite see how people can possibly have a problem with what he posts about the UMC. He's not here to diss the UMC. He's here offering his opinion from the real experiences he's had with the UMC. He's had plenty of good things to say about it, but those things go in one ear and out the other because of the negative things he follows up with.
Relax UMC lovers. You love the UMC just like I do, and that's all that matters. There's just no sense in getting upset over a pre/pro. Especially a pre/pro that's been out for about two years and one that's pretty much at the end of it's life. Let's move on and look forward to the possibly great future that Emo has in store for us. This is just silly to attack a fellow member/s because of a few bad things they may have said about a piece of gear.
