Members, My plan is to purchase five XPA-1s (1s) for my HT/music system which features top of the line Klipsch Palladium speakers. They are about $23.500 MSRP (4ohms) to help introduce them to those of you who have never heard of them before. The least of them has 1,000 watt peak handling capability. At 4 ohms the 1s will be producing 1,000 wpc. I'm going to use the UMC-1 for starters and then purchase the new pre-pro when it makes its appearance early next year. I'm not a wiz at numbers and the science of electricity so I'd appreciate as much of the intelligent feedback I can get. The $ investement represents a great deal to me as well. Lastly, I'm hoping I don't accidentally connect the wrong two wires and burn down my house or weld a couple of pipes together. Thanks, Nic

WoW Nic, that is quite fantastic here! First, welcome to the Lounge amigo! And like you said; don't get electrocuted now with all those potential lethal weapons! 1. 20 Amps AC receptacles are a must (well, preferable, or a dedicated 15 Amp receptacle per each amplifier). 2. You'll have to get a professional electrician over (not a Mickey Mouse one), and get a serious and professional electrical opinion regarding your main electrical circuit power box control station. ...In case you need to improve the electrical (current) AC supply. Wires gauge, safety measures, etc. 3. Just make sure you connect the positive with the positive, and the negative with the negative (between amps and speakers). * That's about it! Main thing is the total available current provided in your household; you want to make sure that it is sufficient. ** I don't know what is your current (present) situation now, regarding your AC current capability (15 Amps or 20 Amps circuit blocks) in that room (Cinema Duplex Home Theater) where you'll be installing all your gear, etc., but 20 Amps has to be, or as I said above (#1.). Other than that, I don't see much else, unless you need some fans too. Or do you have any other specific questions Nic? Bob

Thanks Bob, That's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I really am apprehensive about running that much power but I think that's the best thing for my system. It seems a bit crazy, even to me, but if it works it will be awesome. I have been in touch with an pro electrician and waiting for a response.
I also noticed you're a fan a the blues which I am as well. Thanks again. Will post when I have time to consider a few more issues. Nic

Thanks for the welcome. I'm on LI and I always love to have like-minded company. I'm real happy with my Emotiva amps. They do wonders on my speakers and its a marvel the way they produce detail at high volume without blowing out your eardrums. There are so many pieces of music and movies that sound crazy realistic. I had a Parasound A-51 which gave me 400w at 4 ohms which was plenty but it sounded very metailic and harsh. What a disappointment. I had no choice but to return it and find something else. I was hesitant about having five monoblocks with that much power both in and out. Klipsch told me go for it and so did Emo tech services. The UMC-1 sounds great too if but a little quircky. I thought about going with McIntosh but that was a whole bag o cash more. What a couple of meters too? I don't know...I'm doubting they could be $25,700.00 and change better. So they would be six times better. I doubt it. Great stuff but I still doubt it. So grab a couple of XPA-1s and head on over. We'll run a seven channel system! Thanks, Nic

XPA-1s are probably not necessary for the P-27C or P-27S Klipsch loudspeakers. But what the heck, go for it. You might want to get another P-312W subwoofer though.

Would ya look at all them pretty blue lights ... <sigh> ... Thanks Audiophile, It gets really interesting When the volume goes up all the little power indicators start dancing. Its most apparant in a hairy movie scene like a battle in Transformers. I can only begin to give you a hint of what the sound is like. Movie theaters are left in the dust and all those lights make a awesome display. Thanks for making me feel good. N
