A great review of the UPA-2 was recently posted by Positive Feedback. www.positive-feedback.com/Issue58/emotiva.htmThe reviewer was very impressed especially considering the modest price versus the UPA-2's actual performance. I have had the UPA2 combined with a USP-1 in my dedicated 2 channel system for many moons now and I continue to be thrilled with the sounds I hear. It would seem the world at large is starting to take notice of this little (maybe not so little anymore?) company in Franklin, TN! Those of us in this forum, of course, have known this all along! -CB

Great article!
I learned something I hadn't considered. Emo amps are up to some very demanding reproduction standards if they can shine and improve their performance by reason of a higher source performance.

Just purchased a UPA-2 and a USP-1.... being fed by a ERC-1. I can honestly say this is tremendously good setup - much better than one would anticipate. The UPA-2 has plenty of punch and I've never heard my speakers (Vintage Polk Monitor 10 - series II) sound better.

Just sent off for my UPA-2 from a Lounge member. I can't wait to get a pair of speakers for it to let it sing!

To read this makes me happy I dove into the Blue Friday sale for a B-Stock UPA-2. Thanks for linking this. It should make the Emo main site reviews page for sure.
Congratulation Dan, Lonnie, et al!!!

There goes my dream of buying a used UPA-2 for 180. Now i'll have to settle for 280. Time to search for a bad review.

Great score! And congrats! Are you Canadian too? P.S. Which dollar has more value today; the American one or the Canadian one?

Thanks, Bob. Nope, just a stone's throw from Emo headquarters. The dollar and the loony are about the same in value (only a few pence difference). I remember when it was $0.70 to the loony in the mid-eighties. My how times have changed!

;D Got my UPA-2 in Nov. and just absolutely love it! I am re-discovering my entire music collection because of it. Glad I got mine before they were discontinued. I'm wondering why they did that and if it will ever come back. Many of us audiophiles don't really need the extra wattage or cost of the XPA-2. The reviewer was right when the image the UPA-2 had as a add-on to common Theater receiver was aiming a bit too low. Great review! I just wish he borrowed some speakers that would have shown-off the bass ability of the UPA-2.

From what I've read here the UPA amps aren't good sellers. A shame, as I absolutely love my UPA-1's (and the rest of my Emotiva gear.) The Salks are ruthlessly revealing- if there was something to dislike, the Salks would easily convey that.
Here is what I see being a newbie to Emotiva (but far from a newbie to audio- I'm 45 and have been at this for 33 years.) Some of us here are "HT People" and some are strictly "2 channel" people- like me. I think the UPA series is priced so low that the 2 channel folks especially don't take it seriously- a big mistake. As I am sure you are aware, this gear is competitive at 3-5 times the price. I think the "too inexpensive to be good" issue is valid across the line, but especially with the UPA series, as well as the XDA-1 DAC.
The root of the problem is stupidity. No one wants to feel stupid. Emotiova gear can make one feel stupid- at the prices we have all paid for gear that is either not as good or only as good as Emotiva.

Emotiva loved the UPA series amps and had very high expectations for them. However, not enough units were being bought to justify continuation of the amp series. I suspect the problem is that too many receivers "report" to have similar power ratings as the UPA series amps. The lack of knowledge by the end-user made them think there was no advantage to buy an external amp having the same output as their receiver already provided.

Emotiova gear can make one feel stupid- at the prices we have all paid for gear that is either not as good or only as good as Emotiva. Not sure I can agree with that logic. I feel pretty smart about buying my UPA-7 and UPA-2. I paid full price for the UPA-7 new in Nov 2008 - $599. I can get just about that out of it should I decide to sell it. I paid $220 from a forum member for the UPA-2. I could get that and more for it on ebay but I don't think it'd be smart to sell it. It sounds every bit as good as my Acurus A150 - I might sell the Acurus. It doesn't even have a trigger on/off.
