Bought a pair of XPA-1's a few months ago and they are working great. I have noticed that one of the monoblocks makes a soft clicking noise randomly while playing any audio. It is only one of the monoblocks and I know it is the actual amplifier because the clicking noise is not coming from the speaker. The sound from the amp is just fine and I haven't noticed any other issues other than the random clicking.
Any suggestions? I haven't emailed emotiva yet, but I imagine I will have to so that it can get fixed or exchanged for a new amp.

Presumably the cables are nice and tight on both amps?
Call Emotiva Support as they may be able to suggest something you can try before exercising the shipping option.

I am having the same issue with one of my XPA-1's also. I called and they said it was the heat sinks expanding but I don't believe that is the problem because mine will make that clincking sound very randomly sometimes even when it is just turned on before it is even warmed up.

^ Does it make the sound after you've been using it for a while? (e.g. 30+mins) It should have warmed up by that time. If it doesn't, then the heatsink theory has some credibility.

It's been said before that it's a heat sink issue. I think, and I could be wrong, that a screw (or screws) may not be to the proper torque value. If I'm remembering correctly owners have re-torqued the screws on the sinks and the issue has subsided or been reduced.
Again, I could be wrong.

yep, i got the same replies, not terribly comfortable with it given its a flagship amp. interestingly i have even heard them doing their little jig during the night when they have been off for at least 5 or 6 hours. and i live in a warm climate with little difference between day and night.
Yes one guy did go through his amp and try different things and if my memory serves me well he was successful.

I had 2 xpa1s and one of them also made the click. It is heat heat sinks. And mine would click randomnly after turning them on and continue to click hours after I tirned it off. I never tried the screw to stop it. I ended up selling them

Well that is not very re-assuring. It doesn't seem to affect the sound, but it is still rather annoying. I guess I will just have to steer clear of emotiva amps in the future. Sad really.

Those things only weight 12lbs!?! That just never inspires confidence for me. I guess it all depends on the power supply and heat sinks.
Still.. Interesting company.

Yep, I'd go with some Mark Levinson or McIntosh amps to make sure you were getting the very best quality. You'll never have to worry about QC control with those amps.

Just for the record, I recently acquired a pair of used XPA-1's and have not experienced any clicking. Or if there is any clicking, I can't hear it.

I've had mine running for a while now and i hear no clicking. If anything my defective Oppo 95 was making ticking sounds from the second set of analog outs.

dont let the clicking turn you away from Emotiva amps. They are all great and built like tanks. YOu may call emo and find out what the people are doing to stop the ticking from the heat sinks. I think you just have to tighten or loosen a screw to fix it. I did not sell mine because the ticking. I just needed the money. And I actually thought me having 2 xpa1 and an xpa3 on one glass shelf was thsi issue. lol I thought it was my stand ticking since the shelf was definately not meant for that kind of weight.

yeah, me neither. Owned them for almost two years, and no clicking noise to speak of. I am more than pleased with them in my system and driving the power hungry Mirage. Just for the record, I recently acquired a pair of used XPA-1's and have not experienced any clicking. Or if there is any clicking, I can't hear it.

Mine used to click every time I used them (quite loud sometimes) and even up to 8 hours after turning them off, but a couple of days ago I disconnected the amps and turned them on their side and loosened the five screws for each of the heat sinks on the bottom of the amp (they are about in line with the amps feet) and using a screw driver (just between my thumb and first finger) I did them up barely even finger tight and they haven't made a noise since.
