But then can anyone really hear the difference between that and 192/24 or even 96/24? And maybe some recordings were made at sample rates that were even lower so what is the point of the upward spiral? (aside from trying to sell the products, just like soon we will see 120 megapixel cameras out there).

Thanks for posting this Hemster. I am officially jealous...lol. I am trying to justify buying the Oppo-95 to pit in a two-channel, no-holds barred Texas Death match against the Sony 5400ES but I have to remain responsible to the needs of the family. We need a larger home, and the 8th grader is trying to get into a private high school which will drains the funds.
Still though, I have an eye to get the 95 but it may take a bit longer. Congrats!

on the review...
The 2 X HDMI are OUTPUTS not Inputs...and you missed the Fully Balanced XLR outputs too.
on living with Oppo's
For the 95, I would not part with mine... I also have the DV983H and a very old DV971H and doubt I'll part with them either.
I used to have the 93, but sold it for an 83 plus some clams...and gave it to my inlaws so they can play BR's we have or we bring over. All the units are all disk region free including for BR's ... another BIG plus on the 83/93/95 models.
A few of minor gripes on the 93/95 - cant recall on the other models
That the internal volume jumps in steps of 5...or 20 positions from 0-100.
The front panel display can be a pain when used for Audio only functions on DVD-A and BR disks that require menus, thus turning on the TV to see what one is doing.
Media server interface is to basic and cumbersome
No remote via IP for iOS or android... - maybe this will come in time.
Otherwise its ALL GOOD

Can you say anything about the SQ between the XDA and the 95 in your room and setup. Rooms and equipment aside, do you notice any difference either way between the 95 and the XDA?? Sounds like you do and that you like the 95 better. And that's the rub.. there's no way to know that without trying the 95 in your room. This is not easy of course and at current prices, not something you can easily experiment with. Best bet if you can borrow someone's for trials in your setup. My XDA-1 sounds great feeding the Airmotiv6s in the family room. However for critical listening I'm turning to the 95. Hi Cgolf, I am interested at your 93 & XDA if you sell them ;D

I'm glad you like the 95. As an owner, I don't have much to compare it to, maybe aside from the av7005 and a ps3. The only difference I've heard between it and the Marantz is vocals aren't up front as you stated. My Marantz puts all vocals like they were standing in front of you, the 95 more behind, almost like in the middle of the orchestra.

They look real cool (new designs), but Panasonic doesn't do SACD. And DVD-Audio is dead. Dunno if they even do that in those.... And 3D is dying as well. Very true. ...But it might be back with OLED. And Panasonic strucked a deal with FOX ( 'Avatar 3D' is still locked for the general public) => Access denied! Also, Panasonic uses a very small (miniscule) transformer, and nothing like the Oppo BDP-95's quality parts and build quality. * You need a substantial power supply to provide what's required from the DACs, etc., and propulse the true real impactful sound quality. ** Also, the Sabre DACs are not the last word of this world; and the analog stages are not the last drop of the storm either. *** Someone here mentioned a dedicated CD player like the Emo ERC-1 as having a deeper/wider soundstage. ...That, I believe.

Lately I've been learning all about the French! “The only French you really have to learn is J'accepte votre capitulation inconditionnelle which means I accept your unconditional surrender.” ;D ;D

I'm surprised you rate DVD PQ better than the 83. I still rate the 83 as bettering my 93.

It is no slouch. However, I still think that the upconversion processing is superior in the 93/95. Credit the Qdeo NDE (Natural Depth Expansion) by Marvell which produces increased detail and depth without introducing side-effects like halos and ringing, which are the bane of SD to HD conversion.

Maybe his 83 is better calibrated than his 93. But if one considers the quality of the electronics alone, the 93 has to be a better performer than the 83. Otherwise, the 93 has a defect.

In both instances they were methodically calibrated at the display. No adjustments were made on the Oppo. To my eye the 83 upscaling was sharper and closed the gap on bluray quality, the 93 is slightly softer. A good test DVD for this is Bugs Life. Dave.
