Made it home Friday for a short while. It's wonderful to be back home, but better still: Coming home to NEW BOXES OF AUDIO STUFF! My New SVS SB-13+ (now there's TWO!), and a new pair of ADAM A7Xs. Lot's of changes in my audio system! It's fun to adjust, tweak, and listen. Having a great time.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. Here ya go folks. Fly's Rig. Monitors: ADAM A7Xs Stands: Lovan Affinity 29" sand filled. Subs: SVS SB-13+ (x2) Source: Logitech Transporter Cables: Cable Solutions Canare LV-61S Power: Belkin PF-60 Stuffed Toy: Wal*Mart Room Treatments: Furniture, Carpeting, and two (2) ATS panels on the bare wall behind the Money Seat. Measured performance in the room is remarkably "even" anywhere you go in here, and getting perilously close to 10hz at the Hot Seat. Wifey and I are delighted with the newest incarnation of my set up, and have spent many happy hours already this week listening! Peace! Attachments:

Very nice! The SB13 is a little bigger than I thought. Roughly 17" cubed. It doesn't seem like much until you actually see it, and then try to MOVE the thing. The little plastic "moving man" pads (or whatever they're called) available at department stores make sliding these things into position, as well as any heavy piece of furniture a simple task! Just a couple bucks, and they'll save you a lot of work! Really though, they're (The SVSs) are fairly compact units.

I bet subs like that could literally rattle the spoons in your HVAC system!

One thing I do plan to change....is going to be with the addition of some "outriggers" the base of my speaker stands.
I really like the Lovan steel stands, and with the sand filling....they're acoustically inert. Quite heavy (approx 50lbs each) Dead as a concrete slab.
The ADAMs are kinda heavy for a small monitor (about 20-22lbs) and sitting at the end of a 2.5 ft stand, I find that there is room for improvement where stability is concerned.
Perhaps a trip to Lowes is in order to get some 1 or 2" square oak board to fabricate into a stabilizing base, bolted to the existing speaker stand base, and utilizing the Lovan spiked feet already in place on the original speaker stand base.
Stable is good!

I bet subs like that could literally rattle the spoons in your HVAC system! Heh heh heh!!! Momma read the thread in the Green Room last night, and we all shared a good laugh! I guess I hadn't mentioned the resonating Pokemon cards I dredged out of the pipes also.... SVS said that their subs were revealing, and as it turns out...THEY ARE! You would not believe the bounty stored in my houses ductwork! ALL was revealed!

The BIG guy loves those little ones! A few toys in the HVAC register should be a small task for us.... Imagine what is being said between Jesus, and the baby in this picture... "DUDE! Did you do it? Oh that's SO totally Cool! You're Dad is gonna FREAK when he hears that! (maniacal laughing here) ;D Attachments:

Since I'm hogging my own thread...
Let me share my impressions of the newest incarnation of my rig:
The SVS subs: I've stated my piece adequately already I believe. These things are awesome. Performance, Build Quality, and Customer Service have no equals in my 30+ years of monkeying with audio gear. I am a totally satisfied customer!
The ADAMS: I'm an active monitor fan. I really enjoyed listening with my previous A7s. The A7X's are an audible evolution of that classic, and the most noteworthy feature is the X-ART tweeter. That's the deal maker for me...and the effortlessness of the top end is remarkable!
You can listen for hours and hours and hours as I have...and never feel the least bit fatigued, while the detail remains jaw dropping at times! You hear things (textures, doubling vocals, etc) in recordings you've listened to for decade...that you never knew were there. No kidding! It's not always a good thing....a revealing monitor like this can also showcase the worst in a recording...as they were designed to do. Caveat emptor!
Paired with the SVS subs...I don't think I could be more pleased. The system never seems to "run out of gas", and has extension at either end well beyond the range of human hearing. It IS more than "full range"...despite it's overall small size.
I think today...I'm getting more per dollar than I've EVER gotten in my audio experience. When I want to hear how a recording REALLY sounds? I simply play it in my house.
I'm happy, and enjoying music more than ever before.

Well Fellas, While I have the time at home, and little else to do...my new toys have been getting 10-14hrs per day of play time... Momma has been gracious about relenquishing control of the living room so I can have my music. All is well! The new/revised speaker set up is working out to meet, and in some instances...exceed my expectations. The biggest difference to my ear with the new ADAM A7Xs is their capacity to delineate a vocal track. They do a LOT well, but "defining" individual voices in a mix seems to be a strong suit. Imaging is even more specific with the "X's" than with my original A7s. That's an accomplishment, as the A7's were strong in the imaging department. The A7X's are a bit less "in your face" than the A7s. That was my first impression, and a bit of a surprise, given that the Front & Center presentation of the A7's was one trait that endeared them to me in the first place some years ago. Yes, "Pro" studio speakers DO work in a living room. There's more than adequate adjustment capability to tweak the sound to the liking of the listener, but I'm still hovering around "0-0" on the settings as yielding the most consistent overall listening experience. The "X-ART" folded ribbon tweeter is clearly an advancement beyond its already excellent "ART" predecessor. These are designed to cut recordings apart...and that's what they do! Good recordings really stand out as such, and lousy pieces of production do the same...to painful effect. The SVS subs integrate SO well, and are without equal in my opinion. The only variation in bass response in my room is from "good...to great!" There's a bit of a null at the spot near the kitchen table where my Wife sits....but that's OK. Bass response is clear and solid almost anywhere else in the house....bathroom included, and WHAT COULD THAT BE WORTH TO YOU? In summary....I've had lots of time while here at home to assess the set up, and have gone to bed each night pleased with the results. My check book took a hit...but my gut says it was money well spent. 60-70 hrs of hard core critical listening into it all....I"m happy! -Fly

She can watch that one. As long as you're happy with your setup! those monitors looks nice and the TWO svs subs are like OVERKILL! you won't have any walls left and your neighbors probably think there's a band in your room from a block away. I have lots of subs but they are in different HT setups. I have too many floorstanders with too much bass already. You should upgrade your video or don't have one at all. Your audio equipment is way too advance for mixing a cheap outdated TV. I'd rather see a LATOP monitor in the middle with that nice audio setup then a cheap old tv. You're not the only guilty party. I've seen many a NICE music only systems in different websites just to be made cheezy by a tv that seems to be out of place for such systems. I have SVS sound cylinder sub myself but it's matched with projection system and sunfire gear along with ESS floorstanders and SLS monitors for HT use in one of 4 audio/HT systems I assembled in 4 different rooms. Working on a 5th but strictly audio only where my large ohm walsh floorstanders resides!

A month down the road, and I'm still getting wailed on for that TV. It's Momma's TV....it's for watching the evening news, and I wouldn't be upset if it blew a fuse and went to the curb. The TV isn't hooked to the audio system in any way, and IMO...it's mostly useful as "ballast" in the entertainment center. I'm a music fan, much preferring to "hear" the images and visuals...and haven't gotten into the HT thing. yet. I'm not sure I can handle another tech addiction! ...Fly

Hah hah JD. Always wanted to hear that commercial for the heating and cooling company in Hi Res.... That's OK. Most of the news on TV is bad, and when I'm home...Momma makes way for the music, and all is well. After all these years, we've discovered our similar tastes in music, and have enjoyed many happy evenings listening together. Any audio system that promotes peace and harmony in the house...is a good one. For those keeping score at home...TWO SVS SB-13s does not amount to overkill in my modest sized living area. For some reason that I'll never understand...this room does not have the sorts of "issues" I've had over the years in other dwellings. After the level matching exercise is done....it's all good! No booms, no mud....and I'm tickled pink with the results. Feelin' Lucky this time!

just curious why you decided to get the 2nd SVS SB13+. I've got just one in my setup and it sounds great. I could be talked into acquiring a 2nd one if it's worth it. Were you trying to cure a localization problem with the 2nd sub or just enhance the sound? Thanks.
