On a side note I did email Emotiva yesterday. I asked for a ball park figure on the XPR-5. It looks like it's gonna be in the $2500 range. Ya shoulda kept your XPA amps!!!! ;D |

Maybe the question need to be asked, how many engineers working with emotiva in comparison with Denon/Marantz? Maybe the question that needs to be asked is which one sounds better? I'll take what my system sounds like over what any of the systems sound like in Best Buy/Magnolia stores (where the outsides of the model change yearly). |

An open ended question though. Remember that "Good Sound" can be an acquired taste. You can get to like what you are accustomed to hearing if you don't explore. And there are those who have already stopped where they have started. I have a friend who likes to come over to my home to listen and to his blu ray concerts and wow himself. I have been trying to get him to go with Emo separates but he will not part company with his 1997 Panasonic Pro Logic Receiver & Sony speakers. And cost is not a concern for him. He just thinks that his system is good enough except that it can't play blu ray. He has been planning on getting a blu ray player for the past 2 years. Yes, these folks are out there. So be very careful what you say.

It's about what brings the individual happiness. If a $500 HTIB is good enough for them; who are we to argue? If, however, someone is living vicariously through you (your example above) and cannot bring themselves to acquire a system on their own even though they have the means to do so, then that's something different altogether.
But, to your point; that's why I carted up my Phase Techs a year or so ago and took them to places that sold some of the types of speakers that are touted on the forum to compare. While there were other speakers that had a slightly better high-end (to my ears) they did not make me want to drop $4,000 on a new set of L/R speakers (and eventually change out the other 5 in my system to match).

In all honesty, I don't see the XMC-1 coming out before the end of the year. Not a believer in "No news is good news" when it comes to a product. With all the players involved in XMC-1 development, the end of the year is likely on the optimistic side. What is your foundation? Emo promised that it would released in the summer. We are still relatively near the beginning of spring. Patience is a virtue my friend. I guess that only some of us are blessed with it ;D No real foundation. Only insiders at Emotiva and their business partners really know what is going on. Just pure speculation based on past product development at our favorite audio company. At least what we know to be true. Since this unit is almost a complete re-design from the ground up. How in the world can we expect it to be released so quickly?  Believe me, I would love to see it released as promised but without the problems the UMC-1 had. I would be willing to wait for a relatively stable product. |

Does anybody besides me think Emotiva seems to be abandoning customers who want to upgrade from just an AVR but don't need amps with enough power to blow out windows. It appears that the ultra amps will soon be all gone and only bigger and more powerful amps are in the pipeline. Believe me I would love to get one of these new amps but I could not justify spending that much. Do any of you think Emotiva will replace the UPA series of amps with something equivalent?

Believe me I would love to get one of these new amps but I could not justify spending that much. Do any of you think Emotiva will replace the UPA series of amps with something equivalent? I seriously doubt E will abandon the ultra line. A 3 tier approach is a good marketing move for them and allows them to service most of the market. |

I would be really surprised if Emotiva "abandons" any market/customer base. I think there is more of a market for UPA type amps than the very high power amps.... regardless of how fun I think the high-power amps are (I could be wrong though) - what do I know?). |

The A/V market is asking for small, powerful, efficient, feature filled and smart components, including power amps too. BTW, keep in mind that Emotiva needs to sell a product in large quantities at their prices for that product to remain viable. This was the failure of the UPA-7 despite its loyal followers, yours truly included. Give me one, well made, power amp that can drive just about any consumer grade speaker, that can last for the next 20 yrs and that is all I would need ;D |

Sorry Jim, I guess you're not tuned into my dry humor yet. Don't feel bad, I haven't completely figured it out yet myself. I do know I keep getting an invitation to join the Monty Python Group. I almost never use smiley faces. That of course would ruin the joke. I get myself in trouble so often I am now trying to add the smiley faces more often. As far as my guess on the specs it was close to serious. I was simply modifying slightly the specs from the Sherbourn amp which is the pro installer's line in the Emo family. I'm guessing that the specs on the XPR-5 will be very close (in the ballpark) to the Sherbourn specs since the guts might be a twin. See page 7 here. (Note that Sherbourn on their 7 ch amp lists figures for all 7 channels, 3 channels and 1 channel plus an FTC 2 Channel spec) (Note on the last page that Sherbourn is based in Franklin, TN). Looks like as a general statement we are conservatively looking at 350 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 600 watts into 4 ohms for the XPR-5 (XPR-3 and XPR-7 if we ever them). That's funny chuckienut........ What threw me for a loop was that the numbers seemed like they were based on something!! So while I knew you were being funny...... I had a feeling they weren't totally made up.
I've seen that PDF before, I agree that some numbers will be very close - since the guts are probably going to be very similar.

While poking around on shop.emotiva.com I noticed a little image in the bottom left: Reference Series Cost no object, without the cost. Nothing less than an all-out assault on the state of the art. COMING SOON Image doesn't go anywhere, but it's 1 step closer.. |
