I just ordered one of these for my center channel. I also bought and received an SS-6 stand new in box the other day. I'm now trying to decide if I should finish off my amp array with one final UPA-1 or just sell them all and buy an xpa-5.
My only concern with going to the XPA-5 is the issues with humming from the transformer I've read about. It is definitely something I don't want to have to deal with. The UPA's have been great so far and I hate to sell them, but they're just space hogs. Plus, they light up the room like daytime when they're off at night (exaggeration) but still I find it a little annoying.

I own an XPA-5 and have never had an issue with humming. Replacing your UPA-1's with an XPA-5 is a smart decision, IMO

I have bot options and sonically for ht find no difference. Now I'm using the xpa-5 for ht duty and a pair of xpa-1's for stereo in another room with my 3 upa-1's and a upa-2 for 5.1.
I really have to many amps for 2 rooms but it's nice to have options.

No buzzing from my XPA-5 at all. Its a great amp and uses the same modules as the UPA-1.

I have an XPA-5 that hums, but I'm convinced that it's from the DC offset in the AC line that people have talked about. Some people have this problem and some don't. I figure if your current amps don't hum, then you should be fine with the XPA-5. Anybody else?

Yeah except you have someone like Nemesis who owns an xpa-5 that hums and upa-1's that are silent. I plan to still go this route I just will not keep the amp if it makes any noise. I'm crossing my fingers it all works out.

I just ordered a flat panel mount through Monoprice for $75 shipped. It extends up to 20" and holds up to 175 lbs. My tv is under 70 pounds so it should be easy for this mount. I needed to raise the tv 11+ inches for the center channel and ss-6 stand to fit. This will allow me to do so, while also allowing tilt and swivel adjustments of which the stock stand had neither option.

I'm crossing my fingers it all works out. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Hmmm, maybe the XPA-5 is just more prone to tranny hum for some reason. If it does hum, you might want to try the Emo CMX-2. If it does work at $199, it might be a cheaper solution than looking for a different amp.

I purchased an XPA-5 earlier on Audiogon. 4 months old, silver and black trim included, original packaging, and manual. $750 shipped. I have to pay by money order but seller has quite a few feedback and 100%. Should have amp by around first week of April. Now I need to find a tv stand that will hold all that weight.
Pauly, does the Xpa-5 weigh in the mid-60's lbs or is it more like 75. I read somewhere that the website is not correct.

Exactly - although I think I may now have 1 or 2 of the UPA-1s experiencing some hum - very weird but then the HT area is really a rats nest now with 8 x UPA-1s. The little bleeps seem to be breeding! In general the UPA-1s have been virtually silent.

Careful you don't end up wanting more. I've now got 10 of them!

Well, that sucks about the UPA's. I really hope after spending $750 I have a quiet amp.

I'm pretty sure you won't have humming ones - I think in this case it's a cumulative effective of having 3 stacked on top of each other, on top of a sub and a lot of gear around them. Even with 8 of them running and 2 subs it's still way quieter than my XPA-5!
