Doug, Here is a link for the bare minimum you need to setup your TT. www.musicdirect.com/product/80058You can also call and talk to their support people... they are knowledgable and can probably help guide you. Good luck.

dont get to carried away with vinyl, all you need is a dewscent TT and a above average cart to achieve the best possible sound, if you spend 3,000 bucks on this stuff, your just wasting your hard earned cash. the best thing is the phono section on your pre-amp, then the cart, t hen TT . I have the following pioneer PL300 & PL600 w/ ADC Integra headshell & QLM 32 stylus Technics SL 1210MK2 w/ Ortofon Nightclub E cart. w/ ortofon uplink upgrade silver connections & solid silver ground wire.
and my old Dual TT which needs repair.

I found the SFG-2 Stylus Force Gauge for $19.99 vs. $36 at Music Direct. That place is horribly expensive for many things. I will pick up a carbon fiber brush and stylus cleaner and I think I will be good!

I linked to Music Direct to allow you to learn from them. There prices as not often very aggressive, but their staff is vey knowledgeable and you can pick their brains. I nearly always google for better pricing after finding what I need on music direct.

I am curious about the tools too. When I got my TT, the dealer pulled it out of the box with me and zero'ed it out and then set the tracking force and put on the little counter weight. That was it. I was ready to rock and roll.
I had to set it up again after a couple of months. The book walked me through it and it was pretty simple.

I have a question for all of those into Vinyl, if you don't mind. First off I do not have any nor do I plan on it right now, but my Pops does and he has not listened to it in many years. I was thinking of buying him a TT that transfers his Vinyl to MP3 so he could at least hear his music from back in the day while he is driving around town. He does not spend a lot of time at home, always coaching soccer or something. He is and has always been my inspiration for getting into HT and Stereo sound. His system was pretty nice when I was about the age of my own son. So I want to see what I can learn and hopefully buy him a new TT as a first step into building him a new 2 channel system. My brother's speakers and AVR would be his to use when ever he wants for the time being. Budget is really only about 200 buck-a-roos.

I forgot to say with liner tracking you can pause to goto the pisser then resume when you get back try that with a regular TT,+ I never have to worry about tracking error

There are a couple of inexpensive tables out there for recording to MP3. A good example is the Ion iPTUSB. This type of table isn't intended for critical listening, but if all you want to do is convert your existing albums, this will do what you need it to do for not a lot of money.
