im very happy with my current turntable, i have 4 of them pioneer 600 &300 dual model not sure of. and the technics, all work well, i do swap em out from time to time, older dual still sounds best, but technics is just fun to use, lots of gadgets n such. like i read here, make sure the lps are shiny, or they will have spray air in background.
i clean my lps w/ a nice mild ivory dishsoap in the sink. put record in prrewashed sink, light cold water spraw,. hand only wash in sink, turn repeat,..light spray cold water to rinse. lay out a nice sham-wow to dry, makes em super dry w/ one press, VIOLA, ni more noise..works quite well for me. sime disagree, but im happy w/ it. no more statit as weell, sham-wow(yup the wierd guy w/ the funny eye)

I hooked my TT up this week. Moved it from the bedroom system to the living room. Nothing special: Pioneer PL-514 I bought new in 1977 with Shure V15 Type IV cart. I also have a Shure M97XE that I can swap out out when I feel the need. I actually bought a record this week as well. It is the first record I have purchased since I got my first cd player in the mid 80's. Talked about feeling nostalgic when I was standing at the cash register with it. I bought the 180gm version of Supertramp "Crime Of The Century". Not the best sounding recording but it was enough of a temptation to cause me to bring up a box of lp's I had stored away. I bought the Al Sop record cleaning system because that was all that was available locally. I will be hunting for my Discwasher D4 system though. I ended up spinning vinyl the past 3 days. Talk about bringing back memories. WOW!! Sorry about the flash. The TT actually looks better than it does in the picture.

I have seen a few new lounge members using the Pro-Ject Debut III. Just curious how you guys like the TT. I have a buddy who wants to get into vinyl and I was thinking about recommending that particular TT to him. Also looking for some opinions on a budget phono preamp to pair with it.

Click on image for larger view. great album, a higher output stylus would fit nicely with the bass on that record.

The Debut III is ok. At the price, it's probably the best in it's class. For a pre-amp, the Cambridge 640p is the one you want.

I have joined the world of Vinyl. I just purchased a turntable. It is a Denon DP-45F with an Ortofon OM series cartridge. I just bought it off eBay. Here I go again, now I need to start to pick up some vinyl. I already have CDs, DVD-Audio, SACDs, DVDs, HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray. The other Doug

Punk??? the boring nothing to do place they made it out to be?? cheers from chicago It can be pretty boring, but there have been a huge influx of Californians over the past 10 or so years that have given the place a little jolt of life. It is still ran by the big machine (LDS Church). I don't know if it will ever change. The other Doug

I am not sure how hardcore some of you are with Vinyl. I will have the combination of the Denon DP-45F turntable with stock arm, Cambridge 540P phono preamp and the Ortofon OM10 cartridge.
I will be listening to a wide variety of music and want to find out if I can find a substantial stylus / cartridge upgrade for $75 to $150 or if I should stick with the default cartridge/stylus. I can upgrade to OM20, OM30 or OM40 stylus types as they are interchangeable.
TIA,
The other Doug
