Hello everyone, new to the forum, but a longtime vinyl fantatic. I am looking to upgrade my TT and I was looking at Pro-ject and Music Hall. What do you guys think about Pro-ject turntables? I am looking at the Debuts III and comparing them to the Music Hall MMF 5.1. Any thoughts?

I had also come across the Pro-Ject's and wondered about them. A few have also recommended the Goldring TT too. Thoughts?

one of the best places to start looking into turntables is: www.avguide.com/products/turntables-etc/turntables?brand=202Depending on your budget you will find lots of reviews to help you make an informed selection. Give them a look see. Some of the best turntables for the money can be found in the following vendor listing. CLEARAUDIO MARANTZ ...TT-15S MUSIC HALL PROJECT REGA SOTA VPI Lots of good reading to be done on the various models within each of these vendors... some of the best values in TTs can be found with these vendors. Happy hunting.

Well I picked up my Music Hall 5.1 today and got it all hooked up. Only had a chance to listen to a few songs, but I can already tell that I am really going to enjoy vinyl. I'm big into the digital music so that it is all at the control of my fingertips, but I do have admit that when I listened to Black Water, it was the best version of that song I had ever heard. There is a lot more going on in that song than I had ever realized. I sure hope all vinyl is this rewarding.

If you think you love vinyl now wait until you get your hands on THELMA HOUSTON and THE PRESSURE COOKERS on a direct to disc LP from Sheffield Labs. This album will blow your mind. It was my first direct to disc LP (way back in the 70's).

You should check out( mobile fidelity original ½ speed master recordings ) there a little pricey but I think there well worth it , there dead quiet & have superior fidelity to any thing I have ever heard & if you take good care of them & your TT they will stay that way for a long time , O & welcome to the world of vinyl

I posted a picture of my rack in another thread. It just has the front shot of the TT though. If you want to see it then you should just come over and listen to it

So I bought some used vinyl from various places. Most of it seems to be in good shape to a vinyl rookie and does not have any real visible defects or scratches. Not perfect by any means though. When I sat down today to enjoy some vinyl I heard tons of clicks and pops. It was enough to the point where I needed to stop listening. My hopes are just that the records need to be cleaned. Am I correct in thinking this and what is the best route to go about it.

I use one of these: www.sotaturntables.com/LP_Cleaners.htmNothing can remove the pops and clicks if they are due to damage or wear, however.

I am hoping that a cleaning is all the vinyl needs. That unit you have is a nice suggestion, but I am not exactly in a position to spend that much on a cleaning system, especially since it cost more than the turn table itself. Any other budget solutions?

Any other budget solutions? Yea, they are expensive new. I got mine used for $250. Some of the brush and fluid systems can give pretty good results. Try to find a carbon-fibre brush.

Go to needledoctor & click on( record cleaner and stylus cleaner) be suer to get a stylus brush too & I would stay away from used records There not like used CD`s it`s really hard to tell if there not worn out Or if they where taken care of properly

Perhaps down the road I can pick up a cleaning machine if I can find a sweet deal like that. I will check into some of the other cleaning solutions. As far as used records, it is difficult to find some older stuff that is brand new and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Try Music Direct they have new old stuff at good prices Looks like they have some reasonable prices. I'll probably end up picking up a couple of LP's from them. Thanks!
