There are two ways to take your original post. I covered both of them. If you read the verrry last line of my post (It looks like you stopped after the first sentence) your cost-no-object amps from Emotiva are on their way: XPR series amps to come out soon. Bring your checkbook or credit/debit card. Last price I heard at Emofest was starting at $2,000.

You are reading into what i said. Read it again, at no time did i refer to amp failures. I want better sq than the old, retired UPA amps. I don't need 200 or 500 wpc, and few people do. I want cost-is-no-object amps from Emo but they keep releasing and then retiring entry level products. I'm about 5 years too late to the Emo party i guess. Simple. Buy a pair of b-stock XPA-1s and change out the blocking caps to clarity cap MRs and change out the resistors in the two amp boards to mills. Done. Then you have some serious SQ. Honestly, the XPA-1s are already pretty good, especially for the money.

They're bringing back the UPA-5? Is this even cheaper than the original? I want BETTER quality parts than the old one, not cheaper. I just listened to the new podcast. Another excellent podcast, mostly information and very little fluff (now if they just can change the music ;D). My only disappointment is that Big Dan said the XMC-1 would continue on schedule. He forgot that there are some seniors out there who can't remember the schedule. I wish he would have quickly reiterated the expected ETA in Franklin. My thoughts are pretty close to Sharkman's. I can't remember the price of the original UPA-5, but the XPA-5 was $799, I believe. So the UPA-5 might have been $549 or $599??? I would say "I want equal parts and SQ to the original UPA-5 or even perhaps better, not lower quality parts and SQ (such as in not 4 ohm stable) and a pretty new face." An alarm bell goes off in my head seeing a price of $399. That means to me the new UPA-500 might be a step down from the UPA-5. I will be looking at the specs as soon as they are released. I'll especially be looking at the total weight (yeah I know, but I'm old and like a heavy A/B amps still) and also the specs into 4 ohms versus 8 ohms. I just hope they are not going downhill on their amps the way MoreAntz is to lightweight amps that are not very stable into 4 ohms. I hope my gut feeling is wrong. PS: As I mentioned in another thread, I ordered my Airmotiv4's on August 31, 2011. That is almost 8 months and still no information from Emotiva Pro on the optional bracket. Did someone drop the ball? If they are not going to offer a bracket then please let us know and drop that comment from the Emo Pro Website so I can figure out another solution for permanent installation. Can someone from Emotiva please comment on this. Yes, I have already contacted them many months ago and only was informed they were working on it.

SQ wise, the XPA-1s are still going to be the best for SQ and even they can be improved on.

So, Emo announced an entry level, value series, 5 channel amp for $399.00. And within minutes of the announcement there are already speculations about quality & performance? The announcement was a complete surprise. It is not as if it was promised and delivered below expectations. So why the fuss? Why not wait until all 3 series are fully released then select the one(s) that best fulfill your need(s)? Very sad indeed

Hope to see specs on these amps soon. Sounds like I might need to buy one of these if $399 is the actual price. Unfortunately I just got a couple of used UPA-2s and a new UPA-1.

No problem, Let's just get back to our fun speculation about the UPA-500. Who plans on buying one? It's an incredible price for a 5 channel amp so I hope it does well for them.

Who was surprised? Bid Dan did ask on this forum who would want what in a five channel amp and even mentioned 5X125. Has to be better than a 5X125 receiver from many if not all companies. I know my Denon was not up to that standard.

I believed that Dan asked about a 7 channel amp and he suggested 140 wpc. That thread is still open. Emotiva had long ago indicated that they would concentrate on mono, 2 channel & 5 channel amps only since their only 7 channels amp, the UPA-7, did not sell well. This UPA-500 was not previously announced IIRC, and I feel pretty sure about that.

You're right. Still though, there is a niche for this particular amp is someone wants to add either two larger mono amps or one dual channel amp for a 7 channel home theater project. It would also do well in driving someone's surround channels.

Hi all, You should know us better by now. The new Ultra Series amps are designed from the ground up to be great performers at GREAT prices! The problem with the old models was not quality or reliability.... they were just too expensive to build and too much like X series. We couldn't continue losing money on them. We've taken a fresh look at how to design high quality amplifiers for the budget audiophile and have designed a line of amplifiers that sound great, are extremely reliable, and match the look and feel of all of the current models, at price points that make them affordable for everyone. I think you will be well pleased by these new models. Forget the amazing price points, these are great amps and you'll be blown away by how good they sound and how nicely they are put together. And yes, they still use our fully discrete Class AB amp design, high current toroid power transformers, big caps, etc. etc. We've just gotten clever in our packaging and mechanical design. Remember, we've got our name on these products and they are Emotiva, through and through. ;D NO PLASTIC FACEPLATES!!!! No hollow front panels allowed!! Wow, I wonder if a nice two channel amp and maybe even a seven channel amp might round up the line nicely... Maybe an entry level processor?? Maybe a or a Remember. we've got over 20 new products coming out... so, lots of things to dream about. I wonder what the new models might be??? Hmmmmm.... Cheers, Big Dan

I'm very excited about the new products! Thanks, Dan for the update. I highly recommend Emotiva products to anyone and everyone I can because they are, quite simply, the best bang for the buck. The new U-series amps sound amazing. As someone who never thought that he could step up to separate amplification you and Lonnie have made it a reality! Thank youi, thank you, thank you!
